    Vacations? What are those??
However, I have worked in Alaska, and it is beautiful country. Great views, good fishing, nice people, big mosquitoes, weird daylight, expensive.

We took a family vacation to South Padre Island during spring break when I was in high school. Then found out it's not the kind of place to take a family vacation. But I loved it. :D

I wouldn't even know where to begin. There was the all expenses paid trip to Turkey (Iraqi Freedom I), and the 2 months I spent in Uzbekistan (Enduring Freedom VI), and that's not even counting the 6 months I spent in Kuwait back in 2000 (Operation Desert Spring).

Seriously, the best one was the cruise I took with the wife from Barcelona to Monaco to Pisa to Rome to Malta and back. Six days of hiking around the Mediterranean with a very pregnant wife. She was a trooper. The highlight was the island of Capri. It was just about exactly what I pictured paradise would look like. I loved it so much I put in for re-assignment to Italy as soon as I got back to Germany... and got it!

I'd rather be in Kansas though... its better here.

My best vacation was spring break in Daytona Beach. Lots of beer, sun, clubs, and drunk women....good times...good times. Well....except for the morning I woke up on the beach during high tide with no clue how I got there....damn Kamikazes! :D

I went to Italy earlier this year, its one of my favourite countries, for it's culture, historical sites, food, wine, and by no means last, its people, a truly enjoyable experience.

But the one trip that really captured my imagination a few years ago was a trip to Israel and visiting all the many biblical sites - it was like walking in the foot-steps of Jesus & the Apostles and made the Bible come alive. I know that sounds like a cliche but it was actually true.

From Bethlehem to the Old City of Jerusalem, from the room in which the Last Supper was held to the Sea of Galilee, from The Mount of Beatitudes (where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount), to the Temple Mount, from Nazareth to Jericho, it was a wonderful awe-inspiring trip. For me, the Stations of the Cross was one of the highlights, you actually felt so close to Jesus' final journey to the cross through the narrow streets.

We went to Acadia Natl. Park in Maine a few years ago and it was AWESOME! The only part that sucked was flying in and out of Boston. We drove up Hwy 1 along the coast and stopped in a lot of neat historic places. In Salem, Mass they have a museum with a totally newly built replica of a 1700's sailing ship that was really cool. We went to the witch trial museum but it was just a tourist trap. Ate a lot of lobsters and fried clams. Took a ferry ride from Bar Harbor Maine over to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and that was really neat, too. Any boat that is 300 feet long and will go 60 mph is impressive to me. Acadia is one of the oldest National parks and has lots of things to do and see, and the town of Bar Harbor is great. If you get the opportunity, I'd recommend a trip there to anyone. Horse
