    Your favorite vacation

What was the best vacation you have ever taken? Where did you go? What made it so special?

*I'm trying to start some positive threads as it seems there are a lot of us who would like it and post on them.

Wow. Don't know if that can be topped!

I gotta admit, though - it has a nice "ring" to it! We took an awesome honeymoon trip to Napa a few years back. We stayed in a cabin, did the usual wine tasting and took a hot air balloon ride. That was the highlight - except a dinner we had. Friends up here gave us an Amex gift card. They also made reservations for us at an exclusive restaurant there - The French Laundry. Apparently, the wait list is 6 months and you're lucky if you can even get on the list. The friend's brother-in-law is a part owner.

The whole trip was magical. The other trip that was great for us was a trip to San Jose and down the Coastal Highway to Palm Desert. We tend to try to stay away from the commercial tourist traps.

Then the trip this coming week to DC - for oldest son and his lovely fiance to be married Saturday. That will be another magical trip!

One of my trips to New Orleans. (pre Katrina)

Spent the week in a haunted house and did a LOT of sight seeing. It was a pretty cool city at one time. I hope to go back soon.

Got to go to France and my 16th birthday began (midnight rolled around) while I was dancing in a nightclub in Vichy. It was sort of a school trip for the kids in our high school french program. Two weeks. There were I think 9 students, our teacher, and her mother. What sucks though is that only half of my pictures came out. I had tons of absolutely gorgeous pics from inside the castles we went to and inside the Louvre but of course NONE of those came out. Had pics of me with the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, and Venus de Milo...not a single one came out.

We often go to eastern Kansas to stay at a trailer house by a farm pond, we fish all morning and evening and watch movies all day. I hate to fish but I love to spend time with my family and read magazines!

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is having lots to do and not doing it.

My second favorite was going to Austria and skiing in the Alps. I also got to visit Neu Schwanstein castle in Germany (the one the Disney Castle was modeled after) and visit Dachau concentration camp.

when step-daughter and I went to Germany, Dachau was closed. Must have been off-season. We visited the castle also. I don't know when I've climbed that many steps! But my fave stop on that trip was Austria. That was awesome scenery (or it might have just been the best weather we had on the trip....) and those folks are so good to tourists. I wish I could have brought back more stuff, but our luggage was heavy enough.....I did manage to have a cuckoo clock shipped back, though.

Silly boy! It was a fun trip. Didn't draw very many sober breaths, though...too much wine!
