    4th of July

I just wanted to say that I hope you all have a great and safe 4th. But, before all the drinking and fun starts all I ask is to remember what and why we are celebrating. I for one put the base for my new flag pole in today and will be able to start flying Old Glory tomorrow at noon. I will also be flying the U.S. Army flag just below. Let us know what your plans are.

My wife and I will be hosting her sister, brother-in-law, and three daughters for the weekend. I think the only reason they are coming is to see the new baby and to meet my oldest son for the first time as well. They are driving up from southwestern Oklahoma tomorrow and will be heading home on Monday.

We will be watching a Junction City Generals game (semi-pro baseball) on Friday evening after BBQ-ing steak. Then on Saturday we are going to attend the Sundown Salute, which is the states largest free 4th celebration. It started 2 or 3 days ago and has rides, concerts, fire works, and stuff. There will be lots of BBQ and family fun.

I will be celebrating the 4th in France with a group of Americans, fresh off of a visit from Omaha Beach!

All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

I will spend the weekend as I have the past week or so. For the most part prone with leg elevated.

The flag will rise with the sun each day.

Might go out and watch the parade of people going to the Wild West Fest. For me that would be more fun than actually attending. Tommy James and the Shondelles were booked but begged off when Tommy's wife took ill. They replaced them with Davey Jones. Word is his contract stipulates a need for a wheelchair ramp.

Well now WAIT just a dern minute!....

  4. The Website for Houston's Official July 4th Festival - (my TV lineup)

    Poolside with grandson

    BBQ -

Watching everyone else spend thier $$ on fireworks so I can enjoy the sight. We have some really nice local displays that private citizens do. Big displays just aren't worth the crowd down here.

Nothing like laying in the soft grass by the firehouse watching Dodge's firework display. Dodge's display is just the best to me. I really miss that small town stuff on the 4th. Hell down here you have to be gone all day for the Houston Party - that's why the TV works well.

You may not have all the draws of a big city but you should be really proud of your celebrations - they are awsome.
Ours are big and spectacular but to me doesn't hold a candle to a 4th in a small town. I probably will see lots more fireworks sitting in the lawn chair on the concrete - but I'll be thinkin bout layin on a blanket in that grass under that prarie sky! It happens every year!

    Whatever your plans - Enjoy!

Grilling out poolside with a great bunch of friends. We'll probably play games, eat a lot of food, swim and just have a blast all around.

I bet that visit was awesome. I hope that you took a lot of pics that you can put on here.

Not a lot planned besides we decided to go racing Sat night. And I was informed this morning that we need to go out on Sunday and mow my mother in law's yard, her house sits on like an acre or so, it takes the two of us about an hour, hour and a half to get it all mowed and trimmed with the weedeater. Not too bad really considering the size of the area we have to deal with. :)

4th July 1776 - a sad day for us Brits, no cause for celebration for us as we failed you, but hey life goes on and we've always been close to you and hopefully always will be.
