| I usually practice catch and release, however that brown trout was not supposed to be in that particular stream and was big for that stream's ecology. He probably got that big eating the native brook trout which had been carefully restored to that stream. Therefore that fish became a streamside breakfast. After backpacking in almost 5 miles on my mightily overweight frame and bad hip, Streamside coffee, a potato, some wild mountain nuts and berries plus the best location one could ever hope to dine at made for a might fine start to the day. The appalachian brook trout is the only trout/char native to the southeastern states and it's range has been diminished by sprawl, past over-fishing, stream degradation, and introduced predator species like the brown trout. That stream i fished had been closed to fishing for 30 years and it may end up being closed again if the population proves too fragile to support a fishery. They are a special fish in a special place, even if they rarely get over 6" in their home water. |

Euell Gibbons-----how ya doin' ,man?? Evidently, you didn't leave Kansas for better fishing! Those pictures look like my bait. I have been to several locations, that everyone brags is such great fishing, but none of them compare to what I catch in Kansas. I gotta admit though, the scenery was better in Canada, and you don't have to drive as far to find water! Thanks for the pics, and as Harold used to say-----gone fishin', instead of just a wishin'. Actually, work gets in my way of fishing! |

| The best part of any sport, OOD, is the beauty and solitude of nature. Sometimes, my best days outdoors, are the days when I get skunked! Getting away from the everyday doldrums of life, checking out the wildlife, the peace and solitude (if you can find it anymore), and being able to turn off your worries--and the cell phone----, all make for a happy camper! |

| Fish in little mexico Trout hate me and run when I'm near. Bass seem to enjoy my company, but not as much as catfish for some reason. I prefer saltwater fishing for the size and variety of fish available to catch and where you get to stand while catching them (not here) Growing up in the northeast, Rhode Island to be exact and living in all of New England makes the mid-west look like just what it is, a dusty armpit. Imagine if we could all move from here and let little mexico (Dodge City) have it's way with the residents that are left. I wonder if there is any government funding for that type of thing, move a whole town to somewhere nice ???????????? |
