PS noticed a post by you on another thread - regarding April 16th. The Texas Emancipation is June 19th(the date commonly celebrated and known as Juneteenth). That's when the news was finally read at the port of Galveston. I wanna say it was 4 years after the original emancipation........... I'll have to go look that up! See below - I was close!! but agin............. not right!!! LOL LOL
1865 - Over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Galveston, Texas, United States, are finally informed of their freedom. The anniversary is still officially celebrated in Texas and 13 other contiguous states as Juneteenth.
