Little known Texas History for Texie

March 6, 1836

On that fateful day, Davy Crockett woke up and walked from his bunk on the floor of the Alamo up to the observation post on the west wall. William B. Travis and Jim Bowie were up there already. The three gazed at the hordes of Mexicans moving steadily towards them.
Davy turned to Bowie with a puzzled look on his face and said, "Jim, are we pouring concrete today?"

Jim replied " No Davy - I thought we were landscapin the courtyard!".............................. Good one! Thanks fer thinkin of me!.......... PS noticed a post by you on another thread - regarding April 16th. The Texas Emancipation is June 19th(the date commonly celebrated and known as Juneteenth). That's when the news was finally read at the port of Galveston. I wanna say it was 4 years after the original emancipation........... I'll have to go look that up! See below - I was close!! but agin............. not right!!! LOL LOL

1865 - Over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Galveston, Texas, United States, are finally informed of their freedom. The anniversary is still officially celebrated in Texas and 13 other contiguous states as Juneteenth.
