Pubs & hotels have a licence to sell alcohol for consumption within the premises. Shops have a licence for selling alcohol for consumption off the premises - hence the term has come about of calling shops that sell alcohol "off-licences".

Well, if it is the Mickey D's in Dodge, it is served on a burnt, cold, hard, overpriced, "hockey puck"! But the McD's in other towns, sometimes serve it on an ENGLISH muffin, decent, and 2/3 the price of our wonderful Dodge City dumps!
