| In the earlier daze of the internet, SBC promised the internet as a "walled-in Garden of Eden" meaning they wanted to control your surfing... Ya-hoo's want that, too. I have heard that loading the SBC/Ya-hoo's installation software should be avoided. All that being said; I helped a friend load his and I sure didn't like it... YMMV

| I used SBC for years and was happy. Other than an extra step or 2 to login and a slightly lower speed It was OK. I now use COX and I'm still happy other than the bill. I think both providers have a tendency to raise the price over time. You get a good deal if you sign up but their contract says its subject to change, and change it will. I used to complain about my phone and Internet bill at SBC now I complain about my cable and Internet bill to COX.

| When I lived in KC I gave up Road Runner cable for SBC and it was just fine. Wasn't a huge difference in speed. I THINK, (ask one of the computer smart guys on here) that your speed with yahoo DSL depends on how far you are from the nearest station. Not sure so ask. It was 1/2 the price of cable without losing much speed. I didn't have any problems with it. The reason Cox can cost so much here is that there is very little competition. I didn't even know we could get DSL here. I don't have a home phone line anyway. I have a total package cell service and was just using my 100+ a month home service as an answering machine for telemarketers so I shut it off and am purely mobile now.

| I use Yahoo/SBC DSL and have never had a problem with it. I prefer to do this because it comes on my phone bill. Beware though - the $19.99 or whatever they offer to sign up goes up to I think $34.95. I pay right at $100 for phone service (unlimited long distance, caller ID, unlisted number, all the options) and for DSL and I am way outside the introductory offer. The speed is decent for an older puter. |

| How much are you paying for internet at Cox? You know there are different levels of service for both providers, I pay $39.95 for my service at Cox and am very pleased. There is a guy at work that was telling me that he was paying $50 or $60 for SBC/Yahoo DSL. He was thinking of switching to Cox. You have to remember the special prices you see on TV for the different services don't last forever, they are just a low-priced teaser to get you to switch then they jack the price up on you. I've had Cox Internet since it first became available, also, cable internet service is typically a little faster than DSL.

| We have SBC DSL. We found out that the speed is, indeed, dependent on the separation between you and the nearest station. When we first moved out here to the new house, we weren't even close enough to be able to hook up. Within 6 months, we were, but the cost was up there. Then when another cable provider laid cable in our neighborhood, they were advertising really cheap rates for DSL. So we called SBC and got our rate reduced. Outside of having any problems with the network always seem to happen on the weekend, we've been happy with the service. And it always lets me talk to you guys........... ![]()

| Like Bubba I've been on cox since they started and it was 29.95 to start then went to 39.95. I'm happy with it I guess like anything else you get what you pay for..
