Before you hire an electrician, I think its wise to check with the Electric Company first...

My wife went out and bought a cabinet mounted microwave from Sears. As we went to install it this morning I realized that the one she bought just plugs into a three prong outlet. However I need one that can be direct wired. So I took it back the the guy there told me to just cut the cord and hard wire it in. He said they only sell the plug in type in the store and a direct wired one is a custom made microwave and would cost over $1000.00. Now I am no electrician but I feel that this is just a good way to meet the local fire fighters and later the fire inspector. Can someone tell me if cutting the cord is a correct way to do it or just a good way for your house to burn down?

You must have went to the Sears store in Dodge City. They need to sell light bulbs, because they are not too bright.

If done properly it shouldn't be a problem. The wiring would still be protected by the circuit breaker. The only thing is that it would void the warranty on the microwave.
