Help Computer slow

First, let me admit, I am NOT very good with the computer. In fact, I do get intimidated at times and wish I was much more computer savvy. Anyway, my computer is running a little slow. I'd like to run the disk defragmenter, but when I try to do so, I get a message that says I can't. I have Norton Security. Do I need to turn something off in that in order to do a disk defrag? Thanks in advance for your time.

I don't use Norton, but there would be no harm in giving that a try. Also, make sure all other programs are closed while running it.

If you could, take a screenshot and post what the task manager is showing.


Press Ctrl + Alt + Del one time and click task manager.

go to the Processes tab and take a screen shot to post.

There could be stuff running in the background slowing things down (spyware, Adware, MalWare, Virusses ect..) can load without you knowing it.

Damn, you got at least three Google Desktops running at one time and that Dell Support program is kind of a memory hog!

Ya well that does happen when you have 3 browsers open :P

As for the other stuff, I know what it is, what it does and why it is there.


It's a corp computer, my personal doesn't have near the processes running I have on work computer.
