After several tries I got a message askign if I wanted to try the automatic repair utility. It went and then errored again. Next it asked if I wanted to restore and I said sure why not. It went back to just before I loaded a couple graphic design programs and came back.

I'm running defrag and disk check and then will try it again to see what happens.

If it dies again I'll call Dell and see what they do.

I paid for the Geek Squad extended support but I just have a bad feeling they are going to do their best to make me pay for SOMETHING.

Take it back and ask for a refund then buy one of these, there's even an educational discount. The Windows shell works swell with Parallels if you just have to have MS applications too.

No thanks. I like actually being able to afford the hardware and find software.

I was working on my wife's macbook last night and, even though I used to adminsiter one of the mac labs and hated PC's at the time, I kept finding my self saying OH Jezus in a dump truck what the hell's wrong with this thing!

I figgured out the problem with the Dell so it's all good.

Wordy if it is as new as you say, take it back or call Dell. You shouldnt have to deal with any problem like yours so soon.

It turns out that somehow the A drive got turned on in the setup. Since there is no floppy drive it gave the disc seek error. I turned it back off and haven't really had a problem since.

Yup. Running the diagnostics(F12) would have told you about the A: drive error.

Good to see you're back in business though.

Personally I really like Dell's.
