...a good furnace specialist?

My pilot light keeps going out. I relight it, and the gas comes on full for about 10 minutes to reheat the water in the tank, but when it has done that and goes back to just the pilot the whole thing goes out.

I need to get it fixed but don't want to spend a fortune because of bad advice and/or a cowboy repair man.

The manufacture date on the furnace is 1993, which is when my house was built, so it's probably the original furnace, although it doesn't appear to be in bad condition.

May need a new Thermocouple. It is the that sets inside your pilot light. I had the samething going on and it is only a few dollars to fix it and you can do it yourself. It really is not very hard to fix. I would try that first.

We've used Jim's heating and air before. It was a pretty reasonable price but it's also been 3 years or so ago. His # is 885-4900. You might call and see if maybe he can give an idea of what might be wrong.

Sometime it is the exhaust pipe that goes through the roof. If it does not have a cap on it, then the wind would just blow back down it and put the pilot light out. Just measure the width of the pipe on the roof once you have found out which one it is and go and find a cap that will fit on it. We once had the same problem until I put one of the caps that spins around and still lets the exhaust gases out!

Try Rod Allen at Allen Heating and Air. He is good and reasonable. If I remember right, Jim Ray moved to Oklahoma (Jim's Heating and Air).
