Dodge City Days and festivities will be starting soon, figured a comprehensive thread of posts would be beneficial.

Dodge City Days is the wholly-owned operation of the Dodge City Chamber of Commerce which has been actively trying to dismantle Dodge City Community College since at least the FHSU takeover debacle.

I cannot support such an organization and urge everyone who feels the same to do likewise.

Lots of people from other places come and spend money in Dodge during Dodge City Days who otherwise wouldn't, seems to be a good thing for local economy. Also gives people who already live here some activities to look fwd to like rodeo, concert, BBQ, car show etc.

I have lived in DC for a LONG time. DC Days seems to get worse every year. Not the fun events and things like we used to have. I probably won't even participate in much of it this year. It is all about money like everything else in this town!

I wouldn't disagree, but how many people are actively participating to try to make things better? There is room for a lot of improvement, but take the parade, parade participants really quit trying to do anything parade worthy years ago... I've been to towns a quarter of the size of Dodge where parades blow the last 10 or 15 years of DC parades away. Who is that on?

I think people who want to see improvements need to step up and try to make or encourage those changes, they won't happen by themselves. A lot of people volunteer their time/effort to make community events and things happen and I'm sure they would appreciate help.

Yes it is the people of Dodge City that fuels the lack of involvement.

Dodge City's demographics are nothing like it used to be. The big celebration now happens May 5th.

I don't care if people get involved in Dodge City Days, but at least you can search for the medallion. Is there a better way to take their money and run? Lol.

I've looked for it for years and I've come to the conclusion the person makes the clues and I have two totally different views of "history". I have always felt the hunt, being during Dodge City Days, should be about promoting Dodge City history. It would have been nice if the clues were meant to prompt people in to learning about Dodge City history. And by history I'm not talking 40 years ago.

At one point the Medallion hunt was the main event of Dodge City Days for my family and I. This year I couldn't even tell you one clue. I got better things to do.

I agree Detector! On top of that, I don't even think they put the dang thing out there until they want it to be found. There were several years we looked over and over in the correct area, found nothing, then later they find the medallion right where we were looking!!

Agreed! I've been told by several people that they looked closely in the area that it ended up being found at, and have no doubt it was placed there later.
