Kan. Pickup Truck Crash Kills 3

ROLLA, Kan. -- Three people were killed and more than a dozen injured Tuesday when a pickup truck carrying 19 people crashed on a rural highway, authorities said.

Kansas Highway Patrol Capt. David Ploutz said the pickup truck, with an extended cab and camper shell, crashed when the driver lost control just west of Rolla in southwest Kansas.

Sixteen people were hospitalized, said Deborah Schnurr, coordinator of Morton County Emergency Services. Morton County Hospital said some of the injured were in critical condition.

Ploutz could not confirm whether the truck was carrying undocumented workers, but he said U.S. immigration authorities had been called to notify next of kin.

I saw this on the news last night. It was not Ploutz that was the officer interviewed. The Officer said that charges will be pressed to the full extent of the law, and that they are having a hard time identifying the dead because they were illegal. The INS was called to take all of them into custody.
