| Ms Hess at it again... http://www.hutchnews.com/news/region...dge041406.html Now, I dont know how many of you have had any kind of experience with Ms. Leslie Hess. The only way I have ever met her is when I am on the stand testifying and she is asking me questions. I think in at least half of the cases I have been in with her, while I was on the stand, she has accused me of lying, in front of the judge/jury. Please forgive me, as I am not a lawyer and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I am assuming it is just a ploy to make people think the one she is questioning is indeed lying. She does a good job acting too, including the dropping of the shoulders, the smile of disbelief, the looking at the judge as if to say "Oh Judge...surely you cant believe HIM..." I am not defending the jailer, because I dont know if he placed the call or not, I wasnt there. But, I would take anything that Ms Hess claims in the legal system with a grain of salt. Whenever I have seen inmates taken to the jail, I have never seen one denied a call to a lawyer. Also, court in this case took almost two years from the incident date to a hearing. Cops have reports and narratived they can fall back on to review the matter - jailers dont. |

| I would think there is an inmate phone where they can make their own calls. I don't ever remember a time that a jailer, or deputy made a call for any inmate. Wierd. Course IF the jailer says he spoke to her and it's apparent that he didn't ......... why would he be dumb enough to say it twice? on 2 sperate occasions?............... (just the other side of the coin) Overall I don't see the big deal here. She got her client off - I'm sure the jailer has been spoken too........ and probably doesn't do the dialing anymore. I would be more apt to let the fella dial his own #....... not everyone calls thier attorney - actually I don't believe it's up to a jailer to say who the inmate can / can't call. So I woulda been more inclined to have to have said........ I don't know - I dialed a # - he said it was his attorney..... who am I to eavsdropp.........

| I am sorry But I have got to say this....Leroy Wipf? Is that the guy who she is defending?? Isn't he the cable guy who taps people's phones??? hahahaha!!! I am here to tell you that guy tapped my phone when he worked for the cable company, he was stalking a friend of mine, and when I say stalking, I mean stalking. Both he, and his GF at the time, was FULL of drama and about drove me the *%#@ Crazy! They accused me of killing their dog! Oh and said I called their house threatening the girlfriend. I spent 3 days in jail for that crap!!! Oh man, and in the end, the girlfriend confessed it was all made up just to get me in trouble, that LEROY and another person, who I won't mention (hint: she had a dive bar on McArtor Road) put her up to doing it. I had to pay 700 bucks to get my ass out of jail!! The DA didn't even press charges on them for falsifying a police report or NOTHING! I never got my money back either. Oh and the dog?? The Girlfriend, or her kid, was the one who killed it! Now let me hear this straight...LESLIE HESS IS TRYING TO GET THE CA TO PRESS CHARGES ON A JAILER FOR PERJURY??? LMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh man I have heard it all. Oh did I mention that it was people like this that I decided that it was time for a change in my life???? You know your heading down the wrong road or on the VERY wrong road in life when you are in company with people like this!

| Many of you may not Like Ms. Hess, and you may not like her client, but as the paper states, there is documented evidence that the jailer lied under oath. Even the Judge agreed to that. This is not about who's job it is to make the phone call. Fact is, the jailer lied under oath. In which case, the perjurer should be held to the same standards as us common citizens, notwithstanding his position within law enforcement. If you believe in the rule of law and that all citizens are equal under the law, then you should applaud Hess for her crusade. This incident should not simply be dismissed as a "lapse in memory". The jailer could have simply answered "I don't remember", but instead he adamantly swore to his account, most likely to keep the case from being thrown out on a technicality. It is incidents like this that corrode the integrity of the legal system, undermine due process, and create disrespect for law enforcement and the court system. So put away your preconceived opinions of Hess and look at what has transpired in this case. If we let a perjuring LEO walk away without repercussion, it will be open season on your rights in the Dodge City legal system. For me, I applaud Hess for holding thier (LEO) feet to the fire, someone needs to. Last edited by Tee; 04-15-2006 at 07:03 PM. |

| Hey may very well be. That doesn't preclude him from the right to a fair and proper trial, free from perjuring witnesses. It wouldn't matter to me if it was SATAN himself defending Osama Bin Laden, I would still expect the states witnesses to tell the truth under oath. This is a case where the state had a very good case agaisnt the defandant, but mucked it up due to procedural mistakes, and then lying under oath to cover up the mistakes. It is not the defendant that wasted the courts time and added to an already overburdened DA and court systems workload, it was the fault of the jailer for not covering his arse, and then lying about it that blew the case. | I agree with you Tee. If the jailer lied under oath, then hang his ass! Likewise, I have witnessed it many times, Hess lies in court and gets away with it. Hess may be a good attorney, if you are guilty and want someone to lie, cheat, and steal in order to get you off of truthful charges. Maybe the jailer could get Hess to be his attorney, so he could get off free. Hess has no ethics, and does not uphold the oath she took when becoming an attorney. In fact, her maiden name of Phelps, she fits right in with the Topeka misfits!! ![]() |
