It's situations like this why police officers should have some kind of experience in Social Work or counseling. I have seen hot headed officers (Strader comes to mind) who would make situations like this be a disaster. He's hot headed, a smart ass, and very cocky. If I was chief Ball I would give that a hole walking papers. You have to remain clam and talk with them, you can't act like a complete *******.

My opinion and I am sticking to it!

The SO did an outstanding job of finding and containing the suspect. Calm and cool during the whole situation. SO was assisted by members of the DCPD including the PDs negotiators. SO/DCPD have a very good working relation and in this case, it showed.

Social work or counselling for police officers? Is that what you want when someone is trying to commit a crime against you - a cop that wants to sit down with the suspect and get to the root of why he is committing a crime? Sure, there are some hot headed officers, there are some mild mannered officers, and many more in between. Negotiators have specialized training in dealing with situations to have them resolved without any unnecessary force, just as the SORT team is trained in hands on tactics and special weapons.

Stick to your opinion, nothing wrong with that. But dont voice your opinion then get upset when someone disagrees or has a different view point.

And, from experience, people respond to different situations in different ways. Any officer can tell you from experience some people can be talked to as adult human beings and they will be rational. Others have to be yelled at and a nerve found (and struck) before telling the complete truth.

By the way, yes, the negotiators did a very good job in ending a very violent situation peacefully.

I always felt most the public treats cops like they are social workers............... not in the literal sense..... but when your kids are unruley and you can't control them......... they call cops.......... NOT social workers..............

My DIL is a negotiator........ trained by the FBI....... and has helped with the training of new negotiators......... it's not an easy thing. Cause the negotiator is still a cop............ and still subject to gettin shot.

My hat is off to ALL the officers that did a supurb job. If ya get into a situation where someone is threatning to kill themselves and you are able to save his life with NO ONE getting hurt........ then it was a good nights work.
