I can understand what they want the money for, but what do they need all that pot for?

KANSAS HIGHWAY PATROL, Plaintiff, v. $2,957.00 IN U.S. CURRENCY, M/L; 269 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA, Defendant. NOTICE OF PENDING FORFEITURE Pursuant to K.S.A. 60-4109 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that property herein described has been seized for forfeiture and is pending forfeiture to the Kansas Highway Patrol pursuant to the Kansas Standard Asset Seizure and Forfeiture Act (KSASFA), K.S.A. 60-4101 et seq. If you have not previously received a Notice of Seizure for Forfeiture, this is notice pursuant to the Act. The property was seized on March 3, 2006, on U-50 at milepost 112, in Ford County, Kansas as property subject to forfeiture. The value of the property has been set at $2,957.00; and the drugs have no lawful value. The conduct giving rise to forfeiture and/or the violation of law alleged is: the property is the proceeds of, or was used or intended to be used to facilitate, violation(s) of illegal drug transactions, all act(s) giving rise to the property''s forfeiture. Further, a presumption of forfeitability exists in that illegal substances were in close proximity to the currency. You are hereby notified that the Plaintiff''s Attorney has chosen to initially proceed with this matter administratively and is making stipulation of exemptions available for the property seized for forfeiture as described above. You may do any of the following: (1) File a verified petition for Request of Stipulation of Exemption with the Plaintiff''s Attorney and sending a copy to the Seizing Agency; or (2) File a verified claim with the Court, sending copies to the Plaintiff''s Attorney and the Seizing Agency; or (3) Do nothing. The law also provides for provisional return of the property under certain circumstances including the posting of a surety bond or a court hearing on whether probable cause existed when the property was seized. You may wish to consult with an attorney before deciding what is best for you. However, if no petition or claim is filed within thirty (30) days of mailing/service of this Notice, your interest in the property described above will be forfeited. All such requests, petitions and claims shall comply with the strict requirements for claims as set out in K.S.A. 60-4111. Please be aware that it is a crime to falsely allege an ownership interest in property or to provide false information in a petition or claim. Wouldn't work for the criminal.... "But judge, the drugs have no lawful value, therefore, why would I need to purchase a legal taxstamp?"

Oh! I think they legally have to give public notice before they dispose of or sell anything seized in a raid. From this, it looks like there's not cash involved, but just the "street" value of the pot? Let me know when they "dispose" of it. I might just have to make a road trip.

This was seized, so they have to file a "lost and found" to see if anyone claims it. Of course, no one will, but they have to do this so they can "legally" keep the money and dispose of the drugs.

From what I read, there isn't any cash - that's the value of property seized. I took it to mean the pot was the property....then again, it says in the next sentence that the pot has no value. (I guess I would ask to whom?)

You can bet that if they found it on someone, it would quickly have a value of about $600,000.00 since they usually place a value of about $2000.00 per/lb street value, when they hype it to the public.

Remember when they burned the pot from the airplane that landed at the airport. The whole East Side of town was high for a week!

Ain't it funny how we all read the same thing but see other stuff????

I see someone that found a duffle bag with money and pot. The pot has no value to them but the have to registar to destroy it. The money on the other hand is what is used to buy stuff that thier budget won't cover. Dope money has bought some real nice stuff for our SWAT team and helps with the Narcotics division sting operations. They can use the dope in sting operations and under cover stuff too.

I bet they found a box or bag on the side of the road - when someone thinks they are gonna get caught.......... they dump it. Also kilos have been known to fall out of planes........ runners aren't gonna land with drugs on board specially when the FAA calls ya and tells ya to land your plane. I can see a windfall just showin up in some wheat field round there........ probably close to Jetmore tho...........

I remember that too.... maybe.... I think I remember it. Damn thermal inversion just wouldn't let that smoke rise into the sky. Pepperoni Pizza and Dr. Pepper chased with popcorn....
