I know that the "expectant mother" parking tends to tick people off when they see fully capable people parking there, but as NLIRG pointed out the police can only enforce handicap and firelane on private property. That expectant mother space is provided by Wal-mart and being how many people abuse it, they should probably consider getting rid of it.....but that is their choice. As far as the whole handicap sticker issue, the police either get called by people complaining about people parking in the handicap space with no sticker....or get calls by people that have stickers but didn't put it on the mirror or it "blew away." In other words, damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I know a lot of people in law enforcement who everyday put on the uniform to protect and serve the people of the community...running toward danger when others run away and quite often get little if any thanks in return. Anyone holding a bad opinion of police because of a ticket they receive or distorted stories through the grapevine should become an officer to experience their world, they could use all the help they can get. There is a reason why law enforcement is in the top ten most stressful jobs.

AHEM...Ok MIT. You need to be set straight on a few things. You obviously have a very perverse idea of how things work. First of all..if all the recruiters were in Iraq HOW do you think the Army would remain at full strength? The fight with the war on terror starts RIGHT HERE IN MY OFFICE...If WE (recruiters) do not make our mission then the ranks in Iraq get really thin. If we don't do our job then the people deployed have to work harder because they are doing the work of the person we DIDN"T recruit. I don't "run around DC doing nothing".. I cover 5250 square miles, 14 high schools and 2 colleges (although I use the term loosely with DC3). I am getting ready to pick up another 4000 sq miles of territory, 11 high schools and another college in my area because the Garden City office is shutting down. I am in at LEAST one high school daily if not 2 or 3. My days run from about 7:30 am until about 8:30 or 9 pm to include most Saturdays. As far as bullshitting kids...save that for whoever, you don't know me or what I am about. I have put over 150 young people in boots and with the exception of 1 disgruntled female have had no complaints from anyone being "bullshifted". If you would like to talk to some of my soliders that I have in the high school right now feel free. As far as taking the illegals, drug addicts, gang bangers etc into the military...that is a NO GO. What do you think it takes to be qualified to come into the Army or any service for that matter? If you have ONE misdemeanor on your record you are dq'd from MANY of our jobs. MOST kids are not qualified thanks to the public school systems (not being able to pass the test), our doctors (ritalyn) and their lack of family supervision (law violations/drugs). As far as illegals....that is laughable. Would you want an illegal protecting the streets of Dodge? Your family? Probably not. Then why the HELL would you want them fighting for your country??? Think about what you just said guy. WOW.
AND...For what it's worth...I have been in the Army 18.5 years and I believe the Army IS a great life (and yes I have been to Iraq). I wouldn't trade my 18 years of service for anything or anyone else's job. It's a great life for some...but not for everyone. Not everyone can wear the uniform, answer the call to serve something other than themselves because most people are self serving. Now..I must go...I have a full day ahead of me "wasting my time"..... have a great day!

......and for what it's worth MIT. I can retire in 14 months but if I can get them to let me out of recruiting so I can go back to the gunline and get in a unit that is going to Iraq I will delay my retirement and stay in another 4 years. By the way...how much time have you served in the military? What exactly have you done for your country? I was just wondering if you are talking from exeperience or just talking out of your 3rd point of contact......my guess would be the latter but I have been wrong before.

Knowing who one is before opening your mouth..

The person that this is about is a good friend of mine. I have known him for almost 20 years. On June 12, 2006, his life was changed. He spent a little over a month in Rehab learning a new life style without the use of his legs. Then to come home and get a ticket two weeks later for parking in a handicapp zone. If he says the wind blew it off, I tend to belive it did. The wind does blow in Kansas. He's never asked anyone to feel sorry for him and if you did he'd tell you not to. And there's no lesson to be learned, he knows the law. Hell, he worked for the Sheirffs Department for awhile, I'm sure he knows it. And just like your post TexKan, if you knew him you to would be mad, but you don't. And thats why you make stupid remarks, like being hanicapp does'nt give you a free pass. I'm sure he knows that. Know the person before you pass judgement

Way back when, I seem to recall that when tickets were written for things like no drivers license, proof of insurance, registration and so on when you went to court and produced the documents that the judge would dismiss it. I even think that they would throw out a ticket for loud pipes if you showed proof that you replaced the muffler before going to court.

I’m with Lurker, back then it was about public safety. Now it’s about revenue and I ain’t blaming the cops on the beat for the shift in policy. And it ain’t just Dodge, it’s all over.

I’m all for giving the guy a break on a first offense. If he had a stack of tickets that would be different.

I don't know why I seem to attract the angry new commers. Jesus if you would read the postS and not just one of them you would see how illogical your comments are. As far as "stupid" - fraid not! No one's oppinion is stupid because it's different than yours. IF you would read instead of jumping to conclusions you would see I feel the same way you do. First time - dismiss. I'm not sure what your major issue is other than you are very angry. I offered to help pay for an attorney fund if needed. Does that sound like I just think the guy deserves the book thrown at him??? Hell you sound more bitter than he does - and you apparently can walk.

In the future if you feel you need to make personal attacks - do it in a PM. I don't care how you come off your first few posts out - it's up to you. I don't know your friend and still IF he were a repeat offender - he would derserve having the book thrown at him. No one gets a free ride - this is not a personal attack on your friend. Remember this forum is about opinions - just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean there is no room for them. If I offend you to that extent - put me on ignore - then I won't get ya all riled up!

Damn, don't piss off one of the sista's! TexKan is one of the most compassionate persons I have ever met. She tells it like it is and also is views things from both sides. There are always two sides to a story.

Yep - the sistas tend to stick together! I have to agree with TexKan here. I went back to re-read her post and it didn't sound flippant at all to me and I didn't think she was advocating the judge to throw the book at the guy just because his placard wasn't displayed properly.

Most often, if you think you're reading something that's attacking you or your friends, reread it. It probably isn't. In the meantime, the sistas and I are behind TexKan in this issue.

Gee, when it's "just their opinion", replied to with "just your opinion", they get their scivvies all bunched up!! First of all, I did my time in the military, fighting a "war" in SE Asia. Like the "war" in Iraq, it was a fiasco, but I did my duty. I was a jet jockey, which means I had an "education". To fly in the AIR FORCE, you must be an OFFICER. To be an OFFICER, you must have a COLLEGE EDUCATION!

Back then, we had a DRAFT! Guys like GWBush, B Clinton, Cassius Clay (Muhammed Ali), all got out of going to the service of their country by various means. With my "proposal" this wouldn't happen. In addition, the "recruiters" wouldn't be needed, so they could devote their time to more worthwhile ventures.

I could go on and on, but I have my opinion and other people have theirs. Just don't go picking on HANDICAPPED people! You don't know what it means to be HANDICAPPED until you have walked a mile in their shoes!!

In the meantime, if i said anything out of line, I am sorry and apologize to anyone offended.
