Ya know I can't hink of a cop that would be mad IF he knew you intended to stop at a safe place - especially awoman at night. I also can't think of a chierf that would support a cop that became arrogant over any citizen making sure they were not a victim of such a crime. If it's nightime, (or day time) if I don't feel comfortable stopping - I'm puttin my flashers on, makin the call, OR drivin right to the cop hut. They can stop me there. I just make sure I'm not doin anything to get stopped for. Most the stops we get are other cops that recognize us - tryin to scare the begeebies outta us...... everyone needs some fun! They don't do the car & lites thing - they will question us as we are walkin by or somethin....... geesh I got rousted this weekend at Lowes cause they recognized my grandson......LOL

I don't know bout the *77 but I would agree make sure you feel in danger before doin the call - just the call itself for no clear reason is annoying....but if ya feel justified - make the call - ask forgiveness later.

TRUE or FALSE.
Partially true in some states. The codes on the cell phones are going to vary by state and program. *77 is the cell phone code in that state that connects drivers with highway patrol help.

This situation arises from time to time, if I recall correctly, a few years ago one of the southern states had to discontinue traffic enforcement with unmarked cars because there was a series of assaults involving people impersonating police officers in unmarked cars. They were pulling people over or stopping to "assist" stranded motorists and then assaulting them.

A similar attempt happened here in Indianapolis about two weeks ago. The driver kept her wits, got off at the next exit while the idiot stayed parked on the side of the road with his blue light on while she dialed 911 and got a picture with her cell phone. They arrested the guy as he pulled into his driveway later that evening.

I cant' speak for Kansas nor the local authorities but I found the KHP the easiest going bunch of enforcement officers I ever dealt with. I never met one with an attitude unlike my home state down south. They had me dead to rights on more than one occassion but usually they just gave me a signal to slow down. The two times they did pull me over, I didn't dispute anything, we talked small talk while they did they job and they let me go both times with warnings.

Texcan's advice on moving to a safe spot is a good one.

I agree with moving to a safe spot as well. In an actual traffic stop with an actual officer, pulling into a secluded area or in the middle of traffic would probably make officers a little nervous to say the least. I know it would make me nervous.

If my cell rings while I'm at the wheel I just let it ring. I can always call them back once I've stopped. But then I'm the type that won't answer my cell phone when I'm talking to others. I think It's rude. Call me old fashion.

I'm sure there are people that can drive and talk on their cell phones(multitask) but by far the vast majority can't. I'm sure I could drive and talk at the same time but I won't because I've seen enough idiots that obviously thought they could also and are a menace to the road.

Not saying you can't Bubba, just calling it like I see it

I have driven many miles all over the world, so I feel that experience counts. Just spend a few days driving on the autobahn in Germany...it will change your whole outlook on driving!

As far as multi tasking, I am quite good. I have even had sex while driving (not oral) at 2 am with the cruise control set at 65. Not sure I would have the ability to drive, have sex, and talk on the phone all at the same time, I am only human and even I have some limits.

I have heard of the flashing lights thing...the way I had heard it, and this is back from the early to mid 90s, was that gang members with nothing better to do were out driving around with brigh headlights on. If someone flashed their lights back, then they would quickly get behind the person and follow them and attemt to pull them over by rapidly flashing their lights. If the person pulled over in a dark area or where there is not much traffic, they would get jumped. Now, in Dodge, I think this is not only very unlikely, but also not in the realm of probability. If you see red and blue lights behind you, be prepared to pull over. As mentioned before, if you go an extra couple blocks and it is night time and you tell the officer you did so because of it being a dark area, I think you would be ok.

we had a moron that had the cherry strip on his car, even had his car painted blck & white - he was raping women - this was last year......he was a security guard gone bad.........

The other story of high beams etc........ I always thought that was urban legend........... I don't believe that really went on anywhere........... I know not areound here that I have heard of. The flashers I speak of are the hazard lights on your car - that way the officer know you are aware of the request and knows you don't plan of runnin........ hell even OJ had the courtesy to do that!!

Im like detector..... I let the phone ring and call them back when I stop...
I just dont feel comfortable, even tho I can multitask pretty well... I find it enough of a multitask just to drive in a defense mode.

Bubba........... I have "HEARD" of that situation...
