Well, forgetting appropriate undergarments makes me incredibly happy to have those stupid red suspenders, even if they were NOT designed with women in mind. As to the other part of it, let's just say that some things bounce around and get in the way. Bracing extrication equipment or an inch and three quarter hose line against your torso sucks enough without things getting unexpectedly and painfully smooshed.
