Passing on 6th question

Whats the law on passing on 6th? The reason I ask is that this morning while headed south on 6th I got behind a police car, at Ross & 6th, that drove 11 miles an hour almost all the way to Ash. Normally, if I get behind someone impeding traffic that slow and there is no other traffic I pass.

I understand some people have nowhere they need to be but if you can pass WITHOUT exceeding the speed limit and do so safely, is it legal to pass? I would have passed but but I was just not sure.

If you were following a south bound DC Police car on 6th. Street in the morning hours that was driving very slowly, then know that the donut shop was frying a new batch. No need to hurry.*

The broken center line allows passing but passing through an intersection might be illegal.

I don't think you pass on a city 2 lane street - whether you can pass under the speed limit or not. I just never pass in town..... I go to another street - Evne tho 6th is wide - I don't think the dotted lines are for passing..... I think that's only on the highway...... but if they pull off to tthe side and let you pass - that's a different story. All I'm thinkin iis IF someone pulls onto 6th while you are passin and there is a head on......... guess who had no business over on the wrong side of the road????

Either way, right or wrong...it would take some nertz to pass a cop on a city street..lol.

FWIW and maybe NLIRG can shed some light on this but I believe that is against regulations for Dodge City police officers to consume donuts while on duty. I think it's a public appearance thing. I had one of the officers here in town tell me that once. Dunno for sure.

You cannot pass in a residential area unless there is a seperate lane to do so (4 lane road).

I think the "appearance" thing is........ they can't take anything from a business for free........... it does look bad and usually they get a 50% discount. One of the fav resturants around here they call the 5/50............. If it's over $10 they are charged $5.............. otherwise it's 1/2 off of whatever the price. So basically they can eat anything on the menu for $5. Ya have to be in uniform to do it............... cops love em and are always at Kelly's!!

No this person told me they are not allowed to eat donuts on duty regardless of where they come from....Nothing to do with price.

that's insane - that's like saying you can't drink coffee on duty - if they aren't payin you for your lunchtime - which they don't - they can't tell ya what to eat - I would venture to say that's a request more than policy.......... I can't imagine any person writting a policy to the effect of no donut eating........... think about it................ just don't even make sense......
