This is just a shame for all involved - you would think a jail that size would have a medical dept - at least for triage. Just a shame - no matter if she was shoppin or not - what a mess!

The department will more than likely have to pay. While I may agree that the officers were not the cheeriest.........it truly is not their place to stop everything and check to see if she is bleeding. The report said she passed a blood clot the next morning.......so, was she bleeding before that? Don't know. Can she prove that being detained and in jail caused the miscarraige? Again, I do not know but it will not matter since this whole scene looks bad.

It was the jail's responsibility, actually, to make sure she had medical attention if she needed it. I find it hard to believe that they do not have medical staff on the premis 24/7........will be pretty interesting.

That's my take too - It amazes me that cities continue to put themselves in jepardy by relying on officers to make medical type decisions. It's like that tho in many cities cause you can't justify medical personal for a 10 - 20 inmate jail. Ususally when in doubt they run them by the ER but cities also don't want to absorb short term inmates medical care either. We used to refuse to accept them as inmates at county - meaning the cities would need to clear them if they wanted us to book them. Officers couldn't leave the inmate before they were medically cleared.

I can tell ya that from my experience, I would much rather err on the side of caution in something like this, especially then the person is complaining about something life threatening. The first time someone complains about a medical problem when I have them on a traffic stop or during an investigation, I immediately ask them if they would like me to call them an ambulance. Sure, I have basic first aid training and CPR, but I cant do much when it comes to something like this woman had going on.

that's why you are smarter than those 2 - they were trained better I'm sure but unfortunatley they are going to cost thier dept some cash (maybe not alot cause the woman probably would have aborted anyhow) and some major embarressment............. just a shame all the way around..............

Years ago I hemorraged but got medical attention and now I have a grown healthy young man and they didn't know why it happened or why it stopped.

Ain't the human body a wonderous thing???............ that happens quite often actually - there's an old sayin about a preg woman bleeding......... she will either lose it or keep it............. only time will tell............ glad it worked out for you.

I'll tell you now, if that had been me, I would have thrown a fist or something!! They could have taken my to jail right there. It was obvious they weren't going to help her in any way! At least then she could have had some dignity! I just think she let it go way to easily! She should have stood up for herself regardless of the consequences...if the baby meant anything to her! This just makes me sick.

I think the whole point is there is a question of how much the baby actually did mean to her - she had groceries in the back of the car - now perhaps she was shoppin and started bleeding - or perhaps that was just her ace in the hole to get out of possible arrest since she had numerous warrents and such. Doesn't sound like she was an upstanding model parent either........ there had been issues with her parenting skills in the past.

All that aside tho - they should have had her checked out - it only would have taken one of them off the street and a quick check at the ER would have taken care of this. They can always have her under arrest while she in the hospital - the law don't wait just cause you are ill. Runnin on expired tags to get to the hospital probably coulda been forgiven - the warrents would not have been but to lie and say you were on the way to the hospital when you clearly had been shoppin just pisses cops off. They are trained to be sensitive but blatent lying just makes most of em mad........ I can see how sumthing like this would happen - it shouldn't but I can see how it could and did.

PS - Memo - goin balistic and throwin fists only increases the charges and extends your stay! No one cares when ya do that cause then they just spray ya down and take ya in anyhow........... not a good thing to do! There are cops that would rather beat ya down then spray ya down -

It's a good thing it wasn't you then because then the baby would have probably had less of a chance than it already did. Why would someone with a human life inside of them even THINK about throwing a fist...that would only inflame the situation and probably got her clubbed and slammed...just what that baby would need.
