At that point, I get pissed and defiant and go ahead and wait the full 10 days before mowing. If the person that turned me in wouldn't have, my yard would have been mowed much sooner.

Just so you know.
You could hire Juan to do it. The thing is the law on grass height is the law and I'm sure it doesn't say you don't have to mow it or have it mowed because you work a lot or work night shifts. With home ownership comes the responsibility of keeping it up otherwise you are just as bad as those that don't. You can not mow and say look at the car in the grass of the other guy but that guy probably has an excuse too. It's easy to make excuses why you can't but there are many ways to make it happen. I'll give you the phone # of the guy that mows my yard, he does good work.

I wasn't trying to make excuses, my grass usually doesn't get that tall, it's just the fact that somebody jumped the gun in getting the city involved, in my opinion. After I get the letter from the city is when I get pissy and wait the full 10 days before mowing. Hopefully that extra 10 days pisses off whoever called the city too. It's just my little way of saying, if you would have minded your own business, things would have been taken care of much sooner.

It's a matter of "public safety", Bubba!! Do you want wild beasts and criminals hiding in your front yard?? Quit watering and fertilizing, and bindweed doesn't get very tall anyway! All those pretty white flowers!

Maybe you were ignored, maybe you werent...maybe you were just lucky and didnt get caught. If you were ignored, then rest assured, if you did the same thing now, no one would turn their head the other way even if they did know you. There is no conspiracy (or whatever you think it is that makes you think someone in power is profiting off you doing whatever). Our force has more self-pride, dignity, and moral values than that.

As far as being pulled over "just to meet you"...wow, be careful climbing up that pedestal you put yourself on. They probably pulled you over for something else then recognized your name from prior dealings...or being told by other officers "hey, watch out for ______, she usually has drugs or is drunk but we havent been able to nail her yet for it."

It was mentioned earlier in the post that the police department is not fully staffed. Forgive me if this was asked earlier, but what is a full police department for DC? How many men/women are we down? Perhaps someone in one of the bigger cities could answer, what is a "good" on-duty cop to citizen ratio? Just being an average citizen, it looks like if we only have 5 or 6 officers on duty at a time to patrol our hamlet of 25,000 people. That's only 1 cop per 5,000 people. No wonder we have so many criminals!!

But you have to understand that one cop per 5,000 people needs to be multiplied times 3 shifts per day. And then they have a day off every now and then.....
