Fort Riley soldiers arrested for looting

GREENSBURG - Four Fort Riley soldiers and a reserve police officer were arrested for looting cigarettes and alcohol from a store in this tornado-ravaged town, the state adjutant general's office said.

Sharon Watson, a spokeswoman for the adjutant general's office, said the five were arrested at a Dillon's and were being held at the Pratt County Jail without bond. She said all five were in uniform so police allowed them to come and go freely.

Watson said the officer was from a central Kansas community, but she was not sure which town.

In a separate incident, two people wearing Red Cross jackets who were not members of the Red Cross were arrested Sunday for looting, Watson said, although she did not have any additional details.

The Pratt County Sheriff's Office said it would release information later in the day. Fort Riley did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

A tornado may suck a lot of things a way but I doubt very seriously if it could suck a hole outta the ground...........except to make a bigger hole. Course disaster makes ya see and think some mighty strange things. After Katrina we learned to believe very little of what ya hear.................. let logic rule the day. Hell we thought that the superdome was the town of sodom and gomorah................... as it turns out that wasn't the case.

I tell ya...looting is like kicking people when they're all ready down. I hope those soldiers face some serious consequences from their post.

Not only odd, but extremely sick. This is not what a person would expect at a small community level, but as the article in the Globe pointed out, the soldiers were from Ft. Riley. Should be swift judgement on these people. Hopefully a court-martial. Same with the Aux. Police officer that was with them. He is from "central Ks" with no details as to where. At a time like this, I say hang them, but of course, I should feel differently after this passes.

I'm thinking that Leavenworth would be a nice place to put the soldiers that were looting. I'm sorry....I just have no sympathy for people that pull crap like that after a disaster.

Make the locals let the military handle it. These dumb asses will definitely regret the day they ever hatched that evil plan. From what hubby tells me of military court, they're harder on them than public courts and they have no mercy. They'll lose time, they'll lose any military benefits they're now getting plus their families (if any) that are living on post will be asked to leave. And it will be swift.

Military justice will take care of them. I think you are subject to military court before a criminal court can get to ya. Not sure AOO would know for sure but I would think thier career is in the crapper. God I hate a thief - hate em even more during a disaster.
