Yeah, I got a call very early this morning to tell me that they had called all the family in and he was not expected to live much longer. Then I got an Email after I got to work than he passed at 7:45 this morning. There's a special place in heaven for his kind & soldiers, too. Never asking more than a simple man's wage in return for heroism. I understand they're expecting a large turnout at his service, which will likely be in the high school gym, but they haven't set a date or time. I'm just damn glad we won't be expecting Phelps to show up. RIP, Tim!

Community Service - it's heartwarming to read the stories and heartbreaking to read the pain. God's peace to those who have lost loved ones and Gods strength to those that survived. At least it don't look like the Katrina fiasco - and for that I thank God again!!!

They do, too, Texie - and most of them have said as much. Don't know that I could hold up under the stress, but most of them have accepted and are moving on. Heard an interview with a minister from Greensburg. He was very blunt - we will pick up and move on. That's what I wanted to hear!

KC Muffin, I watched that interview on CNN yesterday as well. When the pastor broke down, I did too. I can't imagine what they are all going through.

Out where I live in a land where it is rare to even know your neighbors, people don't understand why I am so involved in this story. 40 miles seems like a lifetime away to them. Unless you are from Kansas you don't understand that the whole state is on community. We are Kansas. Greensburg is a part of the community where I grew up. Why wouldn't I be invested?

I am more proud than ever to be a Jayhawk.

Now, did anyone else hear that George W. Bush is going to be in the area tomorrow? CNN said he would be checking out the damage himself in Greensburg.

My husband has been working over at Greensburg since Saturday trying to help get phone lines going.......He says whatever you see on TV..it's 10 times worse in person. He said there are dead cattle in the fields and ditches, no fences up so animals like horses are just running loose. He spent Sunday afternoon, along with all the first responders in the Courthouse basement because they spotted another tornado south of town. He said if you don't have to go over there, don't...it would just break your heart.

On a bright note, he came home yesterday and said around this one farmstead, the Mennonites were cleaning up the yard, burning wood piles, re-nailing planks on a barn (what was left of a barn), and he said they looked like ants all over that farm. I would think it would be at least a little comforting to know you weren't alone, that plenty of people are willing to come to your aide and help........

Somebody today saw a black SUV with blackened windows and all kind of anntenna arrays and government tags at the Presto on Trail. I'm guessing something like a Secret Service advance team to make sure the area is safe and secure for his visit.

Maybe someone could start a rumor that there are WMD's in the area and then W could send back some of the National Guard equipment that's been deployed.
