| Oh hell it's always bout the drama round here! I wonder how many of those that want to be in the know - are concerned enough to be involved with the PD? Ya'll know they usually need a Santa at christmas time for thier kids at thier party, they could always use a wave on the street, they probably would appreciate if citizens were more involved with thier towns safety - rather than worrin bout if things are in the paper or not. It's info they coulda gotten on thier own - it's public info................ page 5

| I often wonder bout things that go on - hell when we have a murder or really big story - I ask my son bout it and truth is........... it's just another day at work to him. I'm wonderin how could he not say something about some of the really outrageous stuff........... but it's just another day to him. It's the world they live in and not too much surprises them. It's not like the gunfight at the OK corral - thier fight happens everyday - little or big - it's not news................... it's work! I got 2 cops and one in the copp shop (movin from jailer to cop) they all look at it the same.................... ain't no big thang to them. So we continue to call it news - they call it workin thru the day and gettin home alive. Keep sniffin tho Lurker - it's what a good dog does. While you are around the tires tho - ya might wanna shine the bumper from time to time - just takes a little rub to do that and the wax is good fer yer coat!

| If the news would get reported though, the citizens would actually see what our local LEO have to put up with on a day to day. Since we don't hear of these "news events" the average Joe just thinks the PD rides around all day eating dognuts. On the other hand, it pays to have a well informed public. That dispels alot of rumors!! |

| We have a police beat section in our paper - the really juicy stuff never gets in.......... I agree with a well informed public - there are ways to do that on your own. I always hear the rumors and usually never get the story cause I don't ask my kids that often. They ain't wild bout shop talk unless it's with another cop - it's kinda like they talk when they are paid to talk. The flow of info tho rests with your paper and yourself. I figger as long as the crime isn't in my yard it doesn't really affect me. We look out for our neighbors and our immediate surroundings. Other than that we are cookin for holidays and yep we are playin santa to cops' kids at thier party. Actually tomorrow I'm goin to the Police olympics - son is bench pressin & power liftin.......... I'm the chalk mom - that's the side of police work I like. The good side.

Cops isolate/insulate themselves from the very folks they should have honest communications with: US. Former Dodge City Marshal, Raymond K. House, spelled the problem out better than anyone ever: Cops are cops because the speak a foreign language.... and no one likes to communicate with peeps who speak in a foreign tongue. Right?

| Actually I think it's more of them seperating thier private life from work. They deal with riff raff all day - that's thier job. I dunno ask some cops on here if they find it pleasurable to talk about the scum side of what they do. They probably like to talk more about the example they set then the scum they chase. They make differences in peoples lives in many cases. It seems tho like everyone wants to talk about the muck and mire of thier job. I see more sparkle in my son's eyes when they are talkin bout the bikes they give out at Xmas, the convoy they had to New Orleans, the kids response to a DARE presentation, the child molester they nabbed thru good investigative work. I see only pain when he has talked about the shootings, the kids he had to turn over to CPS cause the dad shot the mom, the druggie that he found dead in the alley. I don't ask about those things cause they don't bring him joy and pride. They are a necessary evil that goes with his job. The other things thos lites him (and me) up. It's a different language I guess but to me it's the pain you would like to leave where you found it. When's the last time we asked one of our cop posters - what's cookin in the community that's good? I know there are bound to be things but no one talks about them. Why not? Cops are not the folks that need to be reporting to the public - that's what newsreporters are for. It's not a steet cops job to report - except to his chief. The opportunity to report is there - it's not thier fault it doesn't get in the paper. The information is public. I don't know why that is so hard to understand. The reporters can call and they choose what to print if they print anything at all. Maybe it's the papers policy to only report burglaries, domestics, and car thefts. I do know thos that the calls from dispatch are public record.
