Just my opinion,

Well that pretty much sums up the mentality of an LEO. I am god, everybody owes me something.

I can honestly say a LEO has never helped me out EVER!!!! I owe you nothing!! You chose your job and I chose mine.

I was in a situation like tee's sometime back. Ebay rip-off. I called the DCPD because I was told to notify them first by different websites. They blew me off saying they couldn't do anything. WHAT? More like no one wanted to do anything. With the little help of local LE and the Boulder PD is all it would have take to get this guy busted. I had traced this guy down all but his real name, and had it setup for them (boulder) to just be in the frt pickup office when he came to sign someone elses name. Easy right? not if LE is DCPD and they refuse to help the BPD. They were clueless and could have cared less. That's my impression of of ALL LEO's. Boulder PD isn't any better as they refused to do anything because the sale they claim happened in DC and was a DC problem.

Who?
A guy named Mr. Common Sense.
Would you like to read the gory details of a 9 y.o. getting raped?
How about when John Q. Public gets popped for D.U.I., but then later
is found not guilty. Is this really news?
Somethings are better left out of the public.

ANYTHING the police do is public information. Details aren't always needed for an ongoing investigation but the big picture is ALWAYS an open book.

If someone is arrested and then found not guilty that's definately news. I want to know who messed up and why.

I think this thread got a little off track. I dont believe lurker thought we were owed any info, he just made a statement of rumor and inquired if anyone else had heard the same

I want to know why the cops messed up an arrest so I can be prepared if it happens to me. Also if the same thing happens repeatedly is it the same cop doing the same thing over and over or is it a department wide mess up.

Or is it something another public official did that messed up the prosecution...

Any number of reasons why this is news.

And who do you think should be the keeper of what the public should know? Me? You? Army?
IMO, give the public the info and trust them to decide what's important or what's BS. But don't let some yahoo decide that for others.

None of us think we are owed anything besides a paycheck and training to do our job to the best of our ability. No where did I imply that we are owed something by you or anyone else.

I am sorry you feel the need to classify every LEO based on the actions of one or a few. Do you do this with everyone? Get a bad meal at a steak house therefore never go out for a steak again? Computer crimes can be very tricky in the first place as to where the crime actually occurred. Some would day it is where the victim lives...others would say it is where the suspect lives...and others would even say it is where the item was purchased from. If someone used another person's ID to make a purchase, then Kansas says it is ID theft. If the person who is the rightful owner of the ID, or name, or whatever, lives in Dodge City, we would do the initial report, then follow up with the agency where the suspect (if there is one) lives. Obviously a DCPD officer has no jurisdiction in Boulder, so we cant go there to enforce any laws - we have to depend on the Boulder PD to interview and do follow up, then request a warrant if applicable.

You obviously have had bad experiences with LEOs and I apologize for that. Was it something you did wrong, or did you not think you got the attention you deserved? Was this on multiple ocassions or was this just the one incident you have had a bad experience with?

You are correct in saying I chose my job (though to me it is a career, not a job) and you chose yours. I have no idea what you do for a living, but I would assume it is in a field I know little or nothing about, and therefore would not think I have any right or power to tell you how to do your job. Many people think that LEOs can just do whatever they want to correct problems - in reality, we have rules and laws we also have to follow.

Spike, although I have no stats or evidence I feel that this is probably more of a reason than anyone would admit. It is something that probably can't be proven but it would make sense.

It's not about the "dirty stuff"...it's about the things happening in the community that would make said community unsafe. I think people NEED to be aware in order to be able to protect themselves. They cannot be aware if they don't know...
