Must have been a certain poster.... I have her on mute so I don't have to read her winding down the road of getting off topic and such. Sometimes when people quote her I get a hint of what she says and it only reinforces why I have her blocked.....lol

2. The idea that the public has a right to know what crimes are gong on in the city...I have no problem with that, and I dont think any other officers do either. I do believe the front page of a Kansas Standard Offense Report is open public record. This shows the offense, location, time, vicitm, and other information. Dont get on the back of law enforcement because we dont run to the newspaper and other media to make sure YOU know what happened. Either hold the media in the area to report this to you, or, better yet, if you want to know what is going on - THEN CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF! We have become a society that wants everything GIVEN to them because "we have a right to know!" Sure you do...but why rely on someone else to give it to you? (sorry - had a mini-rant starting there) The back page of the offense report lists the suspect(s) in the crime, and that is NOT public record...this helps to see that the suspect gets a fair and impartial trial by jury, and is not convicted by the media. Just because the person is listed as a suspect does not necessarily mean there is probable cause to arrest. Now, once an arrest is made, it is public record through the Ford county jail - but keep in mind an arrest is based on probable cause, which does not meet the court burden of showing beyond a reasonable doubt.

Please, tell us how to do that. DCPD and FCSO charge for reports. And, if we don't know what is happening, how do we know to go look for it?

I am not bantering you, I have just ALWAYS been told to look it up myself. Help me know how to do just that.

I guess this thread has gotten off point....lol...please dont take this reply to be argumentative, but perhaps I can clear up what might have been misinterpreted..

Anyway, my point is - dont bash law enforcement for not letting the public know what is going down on a day to day basis in crimes and punishments. Yes, it is public record, though it might cost to get copies of reports. If you think the media should be doing better at reporting it, then post something about it in the local media forum, not law enforcement.

Zeb, I didnt know if you were addressing me or not in your post. It didnt seem to be addressed to anyone in particular, or else I maybe missed it. If so, I do apologize. Since you were talking about my chosen profession, I assumed you were talking to me.

(I have removed the rest of what I had initially posted on here to avoid sounding argumentative. I have already stated my opinion, so I will let it be! No hard feelings, just differences in opinions is all, which is what DB is all about!)

One last thing tho - my name is not Carl...

I don't concern myslef with those that block me - big deal -

My post wasn't to anyone in particular it was about the original complaint. Why blame the cops for what they have no control over? Makes no sense to me. If it doesn't get reported it's not thier fault. It is public record.

Most citizens know that there are rapists, drugs, thieves, and gangs. Live your life accordingly. I think there is always gonna be a part of town you don't belong in - no matter where you live. You make it a point not to live there so why is it so important to know every detail of every crime. Know that the crime is there and if you feel there is too much crime then take it to your city - I'm not sure what people expect thier cops to do. If they are doing thier job by being visiable and patroling what more do you want from the beat cop?

BTW - I don't give bad reps - even to those that deserve them.

The crime is gonna be there whether you get the report or not. It's more important to make sure you aren't a victim - why is the "dirt" so important. Such as wanting the names of those arrested - I don't care who is arrested. I care bout the type of crime not necessarily who did it.

My other input was just some "good" news to be thrown in. I don't understand all the haters - and there are things in life that are a need to know basis. Only in small towns are the names that important. It's not altho the street cops place or job to supply those names to anyone. Mass reporting belongs to the paper.

It's obvious that a person who would go to such lengths to avoid prosecution must be a stone cold gangsta'....

The Globe has revived the "Daily Record," which includes incident reports from the police department, sheriff's office, etc., as part of our recently launched redesign. I'm in charge of gathering that information, which will appear each day (even on Mondays.) Since we began this project a little over a week ago, it is still evolving. Hopefully, we'll get to the point soon where the daily record includes arrest reports, municipal court convictions and so on. Please bear with us as we continue working on this.
