2 1/2 years for attempted murder?

I see in the paper our *cough "legal system" *cough has failed again.

Jayson Vargas serves 2 1/2 years for attempted murder? what kind of justice is that? He intentionally shoots into a vehicle, obviously hoping to kill someone, and he plea bargains for a slap on the wrist.

What a freakin joke. Like thats really going to stop him, or anyone else, from shooting at someone else again.

Committing the same crime in Mexico would purdee well hijack his "free" adult life.

We send him to C-U (criminal university) for a 2.5 year short course on criminal behavior.....

I guess there is a fine line between "discharging a firearm" and "attempted murder." The fine line being if you're lucky and hit someone. And even then I'm guessing you'd have to admit you were trying to kill someone.

and the thing is...he'll probably do 1/2 that with decent behavior.

What I enjoy is Sauer's comment in the article...

"Ford County Attorney John Sauer said after the hearing that the case would send a message to people involved in drive-by shootings. 'Drive-by shooters, we will get you,' he said."

Yea, that plea bargain and sentence sends a real strong message all right.

I heard this is the 2nd time he will have been sent to prison for driveby's.

I also heard this was all but an open and shut case by the police officers. They all but caught him red handed. This does not send any message except that you will only have to do very little time if it is your second time you get caught.

I bet the officers who worked so hard to make the case so good (per county attorney words) is not really happy.

To those out there who did the hard work I say keep it up no matter how bad it seems. We all appriciate your devotion.

When is it time to vote for a new county attorney? Since we are a county of voters who love petitions for special elections, could we get one started for the removal of Sauer? I'm almost to the point where I'd gladly sign that one.

I know at one time some people were trying to get a recall petition going but that never happened. Sauer only has one year left so all we can do is hope someone good will run against him. I heard through the grapevine that Larry Daniels was thinking about it but I don't know how true that is.
