Let me correct/clearify. With a factory 97% tint, and 35% tint, this will bring the tint level to 32%. Which will get you a ticket by a Highway Patrol Officer.

The factory clear glass on a vehicle will show on average 3% or 97%. Very light tint.
(lower the tint %=darker tint.)

Some mfg, refere to the factory clear as 3%, others 97%. Anyway you look at it, it is slightly tinted. When you add the legal 35%, this actually brings the level down to 32%.

I have tinted windows on my vehicle and to help the Law at night,i turn my dome light on so as they approach my vehicle they can clearly see the interior of my vehicle.During th day my window is rolled down completely.Experience shows that if a criminal wants to get the drop on an officer he can do it regardless.

You seem very experienced at getting stopped....lol

If you ride around with your window down all day so the cops can see you through your tinted windows...I at least hope you are wearing a jacket on a day like today.

I'm Glad this topic has been brought up because ive been sour for years about this whole tinted window b/s. A few years back i purchased a vehicle and drove around months (in town) and i was never pulled over or asked to check the darkness of my window (although they were pretty dark). Then one day while driving on the highway i was pulled over by a highway patrol. he asked to check my window tint. Turned out my window tint was 22%...i had no idea what the leagal limit was and i was never pulled over before, but i was still issued a ticket even though it was my first offense. I personally think this window tint law is a victimless crime. I was told by the officer that it is mainly enforced on the highway and not in town. I was confused then and i'm still confused now on why its such a big deal. beside helping law enforcement fill their quota for the month.

Because it conceals actions in the vehicle which can lead to dangerous situations for LEO's, etc.

Tat - in Texas it's all about darkness. We got some fine lookin holographic tints that I see. Don't know how legal they are but ya know we have to pass a safety inspection every year and tint is one of the things they test.

Just goes to show - anything can be bought!

Think about this.

You're a cop that's just stopped a car on Hwy. 50 at 3 a.m.
You have no partner or back up & the car has Kali tags.
As you approach the car, you can't see damn thing inside because of the dark tint.
