Tat,
Obviously it depends on the qaulity of camera you buy. Most Hotels / Motels do not spend the money they should for security cameras. A simple setup like explained would capture good enough from a distance up to 12ft in decent light. Obviously a parking lot would need a much better camera and IR lighting. Cheap night vision camera's are not good to identify suspects.

It could have prevented a break in. I already gave one possible example of it working. Mount one right above your front or back door. It will not be missed by a perp scopeing your place. Why wouldn't someone want buy a $100- 200 camera system to help protect thousands in Guns, Electronics, Jewelry ect..? It just may help.

I also hear it can bring down your home insurance too, but I don't know that for fact.

Anyway It was just a suggestion.

Is building a higher fence the answer to crime? I think we need to address the problem not the results of the problem.

I also agree that removing the tag does very little...there are 2 big concrete retaining walls on Ash St. One between 12th and 11th and the other between 11th and 10th. They both get "tagged" very often, and either the property owners or CREW does a very good job of getting it painted over quickly.

It doesn't matter, it gets tagged again! There is a problem that is bigger than ignoring will allow. Community action needs to be taken. It is a shame that we, as citizens in the neighborhoods, can't buy hunting permits to with "no bag limit" to get rid of the problem.

Those retaining walls could be monitored 'under cover' by the PD and, when the little perps are caught, a search warrant should be issued to search for spray paint in their homes.....

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts (woops! there went the sting) that more than paint would be found in their crib ... or their parent's crib.

Great idea...the police wouldn't even have to do it...don't they have an auxillery that could sit and watch then make the call when something happens so we don't tie up our LEO's watching a wall.

My answer is...my kid is acting up...I paddle his butt and discipline him/her. Teaching my child what behavior is acceptable and not acceptable is part of my responsibility. Ignoring the problem sends a message also. (I don't give a darn) Same philosophy holds true with trouble makers in our society. Ignore them and sweep them under the rug and the problem never gets addressed. And when it's time to clean house you have so much dirt to take care of it becomes a major problem. This gang bangers do most of their work at night when it's dark, because they love the darkness and their deeds are dark. Put a light to them a they will scatter light cock roaches.

I realize we are talking about two clear distinct types of parenting here. I don't condemn or citicize anyone elses style. It's just my opinion on what I think is best. Everyone is entitled to disagree/agree with me. I have no problem there!

Mike I love your SIG.

Unless we can get some type of serious punishment for defacing public/private property, catching them will offer no reward for the effort. I'd like to see the little punks dressed in pink being made to repaint over ALL the graffiti in town.

You play your game and i'll play mine...the spray paint gets painted over that day. Give a shout to the police let them know hey something happened over here, we're taking care of our end. I'm not about to leave up the tag over the night so the rival gang can come over X out the other gang and tag their own line. Happened to trinity on 6th street. Looked horrible. I also think other tags in the neighbor hood are catalysts to other tags in the neighbor hood...our neighbors were tagged one evening and left it for about 2 weeks then our garage was tagged.

Nobody is saying don't cover it up. But, just covering it up and ignoring the problem isn't the answer. Stake outs by citizen's and or police in problem area's, preferably with a "nightshot" camcorder so you can catch them on tape. Calling the police immediately when they first start tagging something. I'm sure there are other good ideas out there to help stop the problem....

Ya I realize that. But I'm not gonna give these guys the satisfaction of seeing what they did last night...while they sleep the morning away i will paint over their tag. Why let it sit out for even a little bit so the community knows there is a problem? They already know. It's not ignoring the problem, it's taking care of it and then looking out for your property afterward.

You realize it, yet that is all you can talk about?

Nobody said to leave it out for a little bit. Just covering it up and doing nothing else is ignoring the problem. It is a reactive stance. Get proactive and put up cameras to tape them in the act for identification purposes. Better yet, stake out the problem area with a "nightshot" camcorder, maybe a spotlight, a phone to call the police and a weapon for your personal protection (if it is on your property). That makes it proactive, you're actually doing something to put an end to the problem instead of just reacting to the problem once it has already happened by just covering it up.
