OK so in todays Globe I see the Dodge City Police Department got tagged by graffiti. I know the first thing that comes to mind is to rag on the PD for the apparent lack of respect from local hoodlums, but instead I like to focus on what WE can do to help.

I've noticed this gang tagging getting worse and worse as well as calls over the scanner related to gang activity getting more frequent. Just this weekend I notice a trailer house, tagged by the 13th street punks, just a block away from my house. I had been waiting for something on my block to get tagged before taking steps, but I'm not waiting anymore.

What can we, as citizens, do about it? I plan to mount a video camera in hopes to catch these punks in action. What I don't understand is with all this tagging going on how can people not see it happen? Is it being seen and just not reported?

Lets see what ideas we can come up with to help the PD catch these punks.

Perhaps a neighborhood watch in shifts armed with shotguns and/or handguns....I guess having one of them sum bitches splattered all over the sidewalk would be a grafitti lesson to all of them.....I know that's a little harsh but sometimes you gotta take back your area...huh?

Is Tagging a mis or felony? If you went to the pain of catching one of "them" what would happen? A fine? Jail (doubtful). Would they even be able to arrest them? If they are illegal would they "catch and release"?

Good questions AoO. If I catch one of these pukes and they get the equivalent to a parking ticket I'm gonna be pissed. I would say that could be a big part of the problem.

According to the article in the Globe a couple days ago, it's a class C misdemeanor. Which would mean that, yeah... it's about on par with a parking ticket. I've heard concern around the state that graffiti isn't being prevented because it's the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

What if the damage is more than say $500 or $1000...then could it be a felony? If it's a class C mis then the gangs know they really can't get in much trouble for it and will continue to do it.

Personally, I don't think they care one way or the other........they could care less about the consequences behind anything they do.......including murder.

With that I would agree....but they seldom see any consequences in this town for anything so why WOULD they care. I understand it's hard to catch graffitti *******s but otherwise when was the last time you opened the Globe and read about a gang member being arrested or taken down for anything?

I BELIEVE that this is a sanctuary city for illegals and gangs.....
