Four hour stand off ends without incident

A four-hour stand off ended early Friday morning after the Dodge City Police Department SWAT team arrested an armed Dodge City man.

The police received a call around 8 p.m. Thursday evening that a victim had been battered by a family member that had arrived at a bus parked at the Rent-A-Shop storage units on South 14th Avenue.

The victim told police his family member approached him; an argument ensued where the victim was struck multiple times.

Police Chief John Ball said when police arrived, the suspect holed himself up in the bus and began making threats of bodily harm to both himself, as well as police officers.

All traffic along the 700 block of South 14th Avenue was closed off.

The Dodge City Police Department, Ford County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and the police department’s citizen auxiliary were all called in.

I would think that bringing an ex wife, husband, or whatever into a potentially volatile situation would be a wildcard. If the ex was sick and tired of dealing with the person, could you imagine what he/she would say over the bullhorn? "Go ahead and kill yourself you sorry (bleep)" Of course, the police would get blamed for anything after that.
