The operator reads the machine and gives an opinion based on what they see. If the machine doesn't show indications that would change the operator's opinion then you've fooled the machine AND the operator.

then how come I got arrested once because I would not submit to a Polygraph? I told the police to have the girl who fasely accused me to do it. I knew she was lying. Everyone was lying. In the end it was admitted.

Failing to submit to a polygraph is not a criminal offense, surely you were arrested for an actual crime?

It's not that people are fooling the machine, more like the machines & measurements are not reliable.
Because of the unreliabilty, the courts & the scientific community, are hesitant to acknowledge it.
Why?
Because the tests could indicate innocent people as showing deception.
It's not an exact science like prints or DNA.

When I've seen it used it's usually as a reason to keep you OUT of jail. They have other evidence that amounts to probable cause, but are willing to reconsider if you pass the poly.

Then again, there are people who abuse stuff like this. I was tossed in the can to cool off one time when I was younger because I called a cop a name. I hadn't broken any laws, but he was right, I needed to chill the hell out.

The polygraph is merely an interrogation tool.
If you're a suspect in a crime, the cops can tell you whatever they want to get the information they need..
