Dodge City News Why so many D Dubs ?????

Picked up the Dodge Globe this past week,found the article on the amount of D Dubs(dwi) Dodge City has compared to other cities the same size.Why such the big disperity?One thing the article was lacking was the ethnicity of the people who were getting arrested.Would anybody from the board be able to get that information ?Put my money on it, the majority are hispanics.Can you say racial profiling ?

When a city is 70% hispanic and 70% of the people getting arrested are hispanic then it can not be racial profiling. Now I don't have the % of what race is being arrested, but we can us common sense.

Mr. Ball says it is not because we have more DUI's here, it is because we have such good police protection here!

I would disagree...Hispanics make up a majority of the lower grades.

ESL in the high school alone is 25%. Do you think the illegals get counted on the census?

When the radar shows somebody speeding, I doubt it also tells you their ethnic background. When you see a car cross the center line, I doubt the car has a sign on it saying the driver is Hispanic. I also doubt the car flashes in bold letters the same thing when not using it's turn signals.

Can you say uneducated? If someone can't speak English, I doubt they read it real well. I also doubt they are very well versed in driving. It seems they are well versed in NOT having a license or insurance.............

You want to find the hard facts, then you need to know how many people are pulled over and what their race is. Then you compare that to how many are arrested and how many are just cited, and how many are just warned. If, say, you pull over 20 people and 10 of them are arrested, then that is 50%. If 7 of them are Hispanic, and the other 3 are white, YOU would conclude that it is profiling, or whatever, because of 7 to 3. Now, if of the 20 people 7 of them were Hispanic, that is less than half. It just happens that the 7 Hispanics commited arrestable offenses. So it is not profiling now is it?

Look at the last names of the people in the jail for DUI/DWI...that will sometimes be an indicator of the race. Just like when they print the list of warrants in the paper if you look at the name it's probably a decent indicator of their nationality...not always but usually.

I agree with Dutch. We have so freaking many unlicensed/uninsured people on our streets that they could give a sh*t less about our DUI laws if they are even aware of them. The amount of unlicensed/uninsured motorists coupled with the amount of DUI's we have in Dodge probably makes our streets some of the most unsafe in the state.....what are our city leaders doing about that?

I don't recall one ever. That might change the results/names, I would think.
