Actually, I don't know where this person lives. I've cut myself & my immediate family off from them. It still doesn't keep other family members from calling & telling me what this person is doing or the drunk dialing to stop. This family member got the crap beat out of them during the 2 day jail stay. Apparently that doesn't stop the need to do the stupid thigs they do. I couldn't have done any better considering this person is much bigger than I. As for regulating starting at home, the family has been working with this person for 25 some odd years. They've been to Norton twice. I've spoken to 2 different police officers about this person & what they're doing. The last jail stay was when I gave up. I will no longer support this person in any way. Once they're clean & sober, that's a different story. I'm just too tired of keeping my arms open to them & constantly getting screwed by them.

Tried to help some of family and friends over the years too, Wildcat. Face it, if they don't want to straighten up---they won't. As you say, it's their problem and I am not putting my family or life in peril for them if they won't give it an honest try!

That is a very difficult decision to make. Often one that you will spend many days regreting. It is altho a common decision that many of us have had to come to in order to have some sense on normalcy about having that person in our lives. Sometimes you just have to say no more. It is altho hard when after saying no more............ there comes a time when there is no need to say it cause the person is literally "no more".

It's a painful but necessary thing. My thoughts go to you that have had to come to that point. I also hope you get the time to see that person back to normal and a part of your life. Unfortunatly tho often the diesease wins and our emotional relationships lose.

Sometimes when they go to treatment though they change their mind about it and get clean and sober. Some people wont admit they have a problem. maybe someday this relative will get sick and tired of being sick and tired and get the help they desparetly need.
