Garden City insurance checkpoints yield results

...The check netted 32 citations for a first offense of "no proof of insurance," as well as citations for second and third offenses, a DUI and two drivers without a license.

The department started running the check lanes in 2005, in response to a growing problem of traffic incidents involving uninsured drivers, said Garden City Police Capt. Mike Utz. They now conduct them two or three times a year, he said.

In 2005, nearly 700 drivers were issued citations for having no proof of insurance, according to figures from the Garden City Municipal Court. Of those, 177 were eventually convicted....

Dodge City ... said they don't run insurance check points.

Some who complain DC does not run the check points are the same ones who complain how it violates thier rights. The complaints of what an inconvience or how the check point is not run properly would be heard.

We use to run insurance, seatbelt, railroad crossing, drivers license and DUI check points over the years.

I am sure Spike remembers getting everything from warrants to drunks to domestic arrest from them!

I think checkpoints are a good idea. It shows the taxpayers that the local authorities are doing something plus it may get a bad guy or two.
