Another story about the Cops of Dodge City....

DCPD has endured it’s share of condemnation on this forum, quite possibly earned most of it…whether it be the individual officers, or the DCPD as a whole…

So, I feel it’s only right, that when one officer does something that’s above and beyond the call of duty, it also be recognized.

Last night, I was in Walmart with my 4 year old granddaughter, who due to things her mother has done, is very afraid of anyone in a uniform; ESPECIALLY police. I walked up the the shortest check out line, and looked up at the same time my granddaughter did, and saw we were in line directly behind a cop, in the blue jumper they wear with all the hardware. Immediately, my granddaughter started shaking, and tears started running down her cheeks. My first reaction was to turn and go to another isle. This gentleman saw her reaction and immediately went down on 1 knee beside the basket and smiled at her, and said all the nice things a little girl likes to hear…and went one step further telling he had a daughter her age, and even shared her name. He calmed her down, and really intercepted what could’ve been a traumatic situation for her. While he was doing this, his wife checked out, paid, and was waiting in the isle patiently for him.

This may not seem like much to most of you, but having seen how terrified she is, and her reaction to most police, this meant the world to me as a grandmother.

If the officer I’m speaking of reads this, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    Law Enforcment

It is so easy to condemn, but as the old saying says, "walk a mile in they're shoes"! Officers of the law and other Emergency Service Personnel can't alway do what others think they should, nor are they always right either! But, they are not always wrong either! These people really have a "thankless job"! Reason I know, "been there, done that"!

That is a really good story. You should post his name so we can thank him if we see him!

Politicians are like diapers, they both need changed occasionally for the same reason.

That is too cool. Myself use to not be too fond of cops, I do not think it was cops in general, but cops I knew that were not on the up and up. Dirty cops are the worst people a person can come across. I have respect for LEO and anyone else who has to deal with the crap they do, believe me I know what they have to deal with. Then there is the people who has to deal with them while they are in jail, or out of jail ect....Pobation officers, Corrections, Jailers, Counselors, ect.....There are some that are only in it for the money and don't give a rats ass about these people and only make matters worse. Than there are the people who do care and try their damnest to help this person become a better citizen in life today;help the person have a life instead of the chaos they have now. If you don't give care and are only here for the control, pwer, and to screw up these peoples lives more than they are, get the **** out. if they are there to help...Kudos to you all andf God Bless!

Just remember, what you say or do can affect a person for the rest of their lives. What that officer did was turn a negative way of thinking to a more positive way. I want to know his name!!!!!!! That is too cool!
    Keep it simple.....

My niece was once super afraid of policeman from only a bad dream. Explaining dream state and reality to a 2.5-3.5 year old was hard.

Anyway, Officer Herrera saw how scared she was of him and he too took the time to say hello and introduce himself and talk with her for awhile. He even allowed her to come see his car the next time he saw her around town. He remembers her and always says hello when he sees her.

I was so impressed with him and how he handled the situation. At 5, she no longer hides or cries when she sees a policemen but instead makes sure she says hello.

I remember as a little kid that all the policemen carried chiefs trading cards and would hand them out to the kids. Everytime I saw a squad car I was chasing him down to get one.. I wonder if they still do anything like that?

If I knew his name, I would post it in capital letters, unfortunately, I didn't think of looking for a name tag at the time, I was horrified at her response, and concentrating on her.

I can tell you, he was very very tall, at least 6' 5", light hair, glasses. I would guess him to be late early 30's. If anyone does know who he is, you are welcome to pm me with his name, as I would like to thank him more personally.

Good Job Officer! They have a very difficult job, for very little pay for what can be involved. As Pootsy stated, one bad one can give them all a bad name. I appreciate the job they do. I have been in their shoes before, and it is a unique job requiring a unique individual. Thank You to the LEO's that do their part!
