Welcome, Dodge City is Dodge City, as Radio said, you have good, bad and ugly in every town/city you go to. Yes there are a lot of flaws and yes I would love nothing more than to get out but maybe part of that is because I've never actually witnessed living anywhere other than here. I can tell you first hand the PD is a very good place to work. Everyone has their days but it's no different than any other place of employment. They are a family and they also take care of and watch over spouses/children/family. I know I can call on any officer if my husband is out of town if I need anything and they will be at my door in no time at all. It makes me feel really good to know I can count on them if/when needed. What state are you coming from?

If you are in a larger police agency in a "neighboring" state, why in the hell would you want to move to Dodge....worse yet put your family there. The crime is high (which I guess will give you a lot of hands on experience), the city is filthy, the water is undrinkable, you get sh*tty service virtually everyplace you shop, the taxes are high, it has a very high DUI rate, a LOT of illegals driving w/o insurance or license's (not that anyone with any leadership position cares) and the schools pretty much suck....other than that...it's a GREAT place to live. Once my daughter was born I couldn't get my family out of there fast enough. Good luck.

So where you moved your family to is better? The only thing I can say for Wichita is they have more entertainment. At least there aren't shootings/murders every night. How many DUI's are there a year there and how many No DL no insurance drivers are on the road there? Oh wait, I guess you don't see/hear that stuff living on base huh.

We are moving from Colorado Springs. The crime rate is very low, but i live with the worst part of society 40 hrs a week. I am locked in a ward with 72 inmates with absolutly nothing seperating me from them. It is a direct supervision ward which means no doors, no bars, not even a yellow line they can't cross. My only sanctuary is behind my steel desk but they stand in front of it humping my leg all night. I love being a cop, but now even if i get to stay on there is no chance of patrol for a few years.

We saw 28 murders last year most of them were over the summer where we had one every week end for about 4 months. I believe we are on track for about the same this year. There are multiple shootings every weekend in the summer, and we are filled with Sureno and norteno gange members. With 5 military bases areound town we also have a huge problem with GI's and airmen causing problems and the military gangs. It is a beutiful city, but it is about to explode in crime with no police to stop it. It really is very sad.

Wow yes that is very sad! Good luck! Have you started the testing/hiring process here yet or just getting ready to? My husband loves working for the PD.

i already sent in the app and ref letters from and ABC agent and a Kansas Assist. Attorney General in SE Kansas. I am coming the 25th to take the written and do the oral board. I will get my background packet done then hopefully. Looking to start just after the new year.
