WELCOME. Just remember Dodge is what it is. the bad & the ugly. some cases good too. we have jackasses running the city (most of them) and they are like anywhere else. They listen to the public and THEN do what they want regardless. so with that said, DCPD needs good people and I hope you are one of them if you are hired.

Com'on now... you have to remember, Army has led a sheltered life. LOL (hush Army, you know you have) :p

User.... you will probably have a bit of a culture shock but that too shall pass.
    Its attitude that is important.

I know you will meet several folks on this board when you get settled in and they will make your life alot richer.

I live in Ky now, but I loved DC and SW Ks. Its cowboy country. Lots of cattle and all that goes with it.

    Good luck with your job.

I grew up in Parsons Kansas with 12000 people and lived a short time in Pittsburg Ks in college which is similar in size to Dodge. I have relatives in Anthony Ks and distant relatives in ELkheart. It shouldn't be too much of a culture shock, but it has been a few years since i was in a "rural" area like that.

I can't get the scanner to work, it keeps saying page not found. Anyway, do you use 10 codes, plain speak, or something else on the radio?

What kind of equipment do you have/use (MDC, video, radar, taser, firearm, rifle, vehicle, etc...)?

I will have to pull those numbers up. You would have to do a "per capita" comparison because obviously we have more murder/rape/dui's than Dodge due to the fact that Wichita is way larger.

Wichita might be higher though..I'm not sure.

You are right...living on base has certain advantages. One is that the housing is set apart from the base and gated with a security guard. The only people that go in housing are the people that live there and guests that are signed in and have a pass. The speed limit through the entire housing area is 15 mph. It's a family friendly environment...also don't have to worry about a sex offender living on my block....:) There is a playground for kids about every two blocks which is nice.
