    The new guy?

I'm thinking of applying at DCPD. I'm in Law Enforcement as a sworn member of a large agency in a neighboring state. I grew up in Kansas, but never made it to DC. Gimme the good, bad, and ugly. My family will need to rent a house for a while, any suggestions?

Rental houses are at a premium.
The problem with the financial crisis is....
none of the people working on it have a financial crisis.

How many bedrooms. I had a 4 BR newer duplex with a full furnished basement, fire place, privacy fenced yard, 2 car garage, 2.5 baths and fire place for $950.00. Not sure you could find that now.

I had also stayed in a newer 2 br duplex for 650.00.

If you are in a larger police agency in a "neighboring" state, why in the hell would you want to move to Dodge....worse yet put your family there. The crime is high (which I guess will give you a lot of hands on experience), the city is filthy, the water is undrinkable, you get sh*tty service virtually everyplace you shop, the taxes are high, it has a very high DUI rate, a LOT of illegals driving w/o insurance or license's (not that anyone with any leadership position cares) and the schools pretty much suck....other than that...it's a GREAT place to live. Once my daughter was born I couldn't get my family out of there fast enough. Good luck.

need a minimum 2 br prefer 3 or 4. Well the stupid people in our county don't bother to educate themselves about issues on the ballot and voted down a 1% sales tax increase that would have built a new tower on our jail increasing it to a capacity of over 2200. Double our sheriff's patrol and staff the new facility. Now the office took a $1 million budget cut and we have to lay off 32 deputies, and close 4 wards in the jail. We won't even be taking any body but felony 1,2,3 to jail. only violent offenders and manditory arrests like DV or warrants will go. Very sad.

That is pretty sad. Public screaming to put more people in jail for longer instead of early release or "slap on the wrist" probation but when it comes to paying for all of, they scream bloody murder.

thank you, glad to be here. I hope DC isn't as bad as army put it. I am actually looking forward to the opportunity. Plus it is the only possibility at continous employment.

There will be plenty of criminals in DC to arrest...the problem is they do the same thing in DC as where you are coming from. Ask the people on here how many people cut deals and walk. Ask them how great Dodge is to live in if you are illegal.

Go to the search at the top of the page and pull up some of the old threads to get an idea of what people think of Dodge....It's not just what I think...here...

The violence in this town needs to be reigned in.

As adults nothing changes. They go to work at Wal*Mart hired on the same qualifications. They speak Spanish. Pride in their job is optional.

You won't see these people working at a business that prides themselves on customer service. Unfortunately, I can only eat so much Arbys.

These are just a few of the MANY posts about the LOVELY town of Dodge....again tell me why in the hell you would move your family there?

Wow...someone forget to take their meds today? A town is only as good as what you put into it. I am quite happy living here. I grew up here. I know things have changed in many, many ways. But - I have also lived in several other communities around the midwest and have found each one is only as good as the attitude I had about it.

My family, including my three kids (and the one on the way), stick to what we know. We have fun. We stay away from certain parts of town at certain times. We go to church...we buy groceries...we have birthday parties. All in, guess what, DODGE CITY. It is kinda like a wasp nest - dont go around it, and it is not going to hurt you. Throw rocks at it every time you walk by, and sooner or later you will be stung.

In other words, if you dont like it, leave. There are plenty of us that do like it here. Instead of pointing out all the bad things that exist in our community, why not embrace the good things about it? Even better yet, why not try to correct the negative things?

I share the same attitude Radio guy...but as one can read from the many posts....people of the community DO try and correct the negative things. They email, call and talk to their city leaders who do NOTHING but bow to the packing plants and make DC a sanctuary city for the illegals. Consequently you have schools that are more or less ESL...English IS the second language......

We are not talking about "other communities in the midwest"...we are talking about Dodge City. You speak in general terms....embrace the good things about it huh? Perhaps you would expand on that. What are the core things that would draw a family to a community? Quality schools, crime rate, things to do, property taxes, quality of life and overall growth of a city....why don't you point out the positives about these things instead of speaking in general terms. Tell me how low the crime rate is and how the gang problem is under control. Tell me how clean the town is and how the illegals are not allowed to do what they want to do....Tell me how great the schools are. Tell me about the low property taxes and all the great public services you get in Dodge in return for those property taxes.....I'll wait patiently sir.

Perhaps I didn't take my meds but you are in need of a DOSE of reality.
