    Testing vehicle Speed

This might sound stupid but, I have had my little Ranger PU for 6 years, used, but I think the speedo might be off. As I came into town from taking video the other day, came upon the construction zone west of town and I was going 60 when I came to the sign that tells you how fast you are going and it showed I was going 47. Now I have noticed in the past when we go to the lake or to Shreveport Louisiana, alot of people pass us. Is there a way an officer can do a speed check, of course the legal way as not to get a ticket, to see if I am off on my speedometer. Thanks, Bill

There are two ways that I can think of just off the top of my head. The first is to set your cruise to 60 and count the number of seconds between mile markers. The other is find somebody who has a portable GPS that reads speed. I know some of the Garmin units for your vehicle can tell you how fast you are driving.

or compare driving over a known distance to what your odometer says . if one is off the other probably is too. did you downsize your tires by any chance?

Same tires. I do know that when I bought this vehicle, the elderly lady said before her husband passed away that they had a new tranny put in. Could be it has the wrong odometer drive gear in the tailhousing. might have to go down to Ford and askem what color of gear should it have.

I was clocked by the same speed-o and it read low compared to my o-meter.

    low drag?

hell, bear, i always thought you were a high speed, low drag guy at any speed. when building my hot rod, the tranny gear was the answer. I had dean bush ride with me and a radar gun. we got close enough to set the tac at the right speed, while the speedo was off about 5 mphs. your old enough to drive slow anyways.

I have a TomTom that shows speed Kodiak - very accurate. You are welcome to borrow it for a week and test out your ride. Just lemme know.
President Obama has responded to our national debt spiralling out of control by calling for the creation of a Deficit Commission to find solutions to the problem. Coulter suggests The Deficit Commission's first recommendation should be "resign immediately Mr. President."

Tip o'the hat to Ann Coulter
