Thread: blue shirts

  1. OK - well I have the dumb follow up. Your rules my be different up there I don't know -

Down here the cops carry OC that is SHU of 5.3 million. Civilians can only carry 1.2 million. That's what sold in stores. Perhaps the 5.3 is available in gun shops but not at Walgreens - I didn't ask.

If a civilian uses OC that is over 1.2 million it can be a felony if the spray is done with malice. (something other than self defense). So the public is restricted to 1.2 million SHU

The SHU is the heat index. DIL said it's called Schofield Heat Unit.

I knew there was something about the OC but just couldn't remember what it was.

Sorry for contributing to a totally useless thread!

Good gosh! They've got guns that can spay at a distance?! Now that's technology. Look out, criminals. If you mess up, kids won't be in your future. Of course, it would be nice to keep some from reproducing. But that's a whole n'other can of worms.

Back to security guards, I've seen one at the mall sometimes that wears a blue shirt similar to the SO's shirt.

This guy has a full tacti-cool police belt, nightstick holder, handcuffs and pouches, probably some kind of punk repellant, and a really nice pistol holster-although I've yet to see a pistol in it. I imagine security is not allowed to carry a pistol on duty. So...why the snazzy holster? I see other security guards that have some pouches, phone, punk repellant, gameboy, maybe cuffs and one guard just a belt to keep the ol' pants up.

Maybe he's more enthusiastic about his job than others, maybe...hell I don't know, just had to share.

But anyways, I don't know if there is or should be a problem with him wearing what appears to be a SO uniform, maybe impersonating a law-enforcement officer?? I think they should be different than what the PD and SO wear.

  6. Lots of time "security" companies are very "official" in their apprearnce - that's the whole point.

If the guy is certified to carry - my guess is he would carry. Most that are certified won't work for a company that restricts carry.

Security is Security. Be it in the form of Rent-a-Cop, Police, ect ect.

They're there for the customer, for the business, to protect and serve.

What they wear is not as important as what they represent. And that's a safer enviornment for everyone.

I've been to the mall on occasion to see dozens of kids roaming in a large group, being loud and obnoxious, and given the rate of teenage violence, i'm happy to see someone is there looking after my best interest and stopping things from getting out of hand.

I'm sure the vendors and shopkeepers are happy they're there too.

whether they carry or not depends on the contract between the customer and the security company. armed security costs way more.

When I worked for an armoured car company we had a dress code that we had to follow too. We had black boots, black BDU's, lighter blue shirt. It clearly had our company name on the arm and we had to carry our license to carry a firearm on us at all times. We had a holster with a can of spray and our gun and reloads and that was it. We at no time ever looked like cops but we were just as much at risk for the things we carried. We transported money, jewelry, gold, credit cards, etc. There are different kinds of "security" guards out there and they are all just as important for whatever type of job they do.
We were in Wichita a few weeks ago and my daughter saw a mall cop on those little 2 wheeled gizmos and points and yells really loud "Look mom it's Paul Blart the mall cop!" I nearly died, he was embarassed and alot of shoppers got quite the laugh. (I did make her apologize to him). KIDS!!!
