I kinda remember when I lived there, that a dog was impounded until there was a determination of whether or not the dog was cared for and safety indications. If the dog wasn't cared for properly or not confined to the owner's property, there was either a hefty fine (that we had to pay a couple of times because our dog was out) or the animal was put down if found to be a safety concern. But that was in Dodge. This dog wasn't in Dodge, so the same rules don't necessarily apply. I'd be willing to bet, though, that a fair and impartial judge would rule the dogs a safety hazard to others and they'd be put down. I'm reading that the dogs haven't even been impounded, leading me to think there's something wrong - either with the story or with the city government............

Lurker, my guess is the owners have liability coverage because it's likely that someone owes on the house, even if it's a landlord.

A financial reward is not the goal. A financial penalty to the ****** is the goal. Thus, Small Claims Court would not be the best option. A full-fledged suit would be more costly to defend.

I dunno........ but there just seems to be a piece missing here... somewhere.

I don't think they impound dogs if the dogs were in thier yard......I know, I know, that is not the story but I just can't understand how nothing could be happenning......

I don't think any govt employee is showed favor - too easy to sue over that.

There is something missing. I'm surprised a citizen hasn't taken care of this themselves yet. IF citizens of Bucklin felt threatened surely someone would have taken those dogs out while the owners were gone...... the dogs gotta go outside sometime............

My point exactly, Tex. I don't know if the mean dogs' owner own the house they live in or are renting. If they're renting, the owner's liability could and probably would deny coverage for this. The first time. More than likely, it's an absentee landlord. If they own, and still have a mortage, so still carry liability insurance - then hopefully sumbunny's gonna take this to a higher court than small claims. When their insuror finds out there are dogs, they'll make 'em put them down or cancel their coverage. If the small dog's owner doesn't force the issue, nothing at all will be done. Too bad.

Texkan, local government employees are shown favor regularly. It is more the rule than the exception. Ever heard of a police officer or fireman getting a speeding ticket? Rarely. Very rarely. I'm not opposed to that because it's pretty much a victimless crime and there has to be some perks for their tough job.

But when a blind eye is turned when there is a victim, that is wrong.

The reason it seems like some facts are missing is because the reality of what happened is just so unjust. Don't distrust the facts just because they seem onesided. This was a onesided situation. Two rottweilers that have a history of attacking other dogs, went out of their own yard and attacked much smaller defenseless wienerdog, virtually playing tug-of-war with his yelping body until his head was nearly off and his shoulderblades exposed.

Please don't take the wrong side on this just because it seems too unjust to be true. You may have noted that the dogs' owners have been virtually silent. They have not at any time claimed that the situation didn't happen just as you've been told here.

The dogs' owners are hoping for this very thing. They hope it will blow over. Next time it could be yolur dog or your child. Right is right and wrong is wrong, regardless of who you work for and the leeway that may afford.

I never heard of one insignificant county employee getting such carte blanch treatment>........ Why hasn't the Humane society jumped on this?

BTW..... my DIL (cop) actually did get a ticket from an HPD officer....... usually doesn't happen cause of Prof coutesy......... but she did! Cops don't drive slow either so it was rather $$$$........... LOL

Thanks Texkan.

Not many people are willing to stick their necks out for 1 little weiner dog apparently.

The facts of the situation are well-known and not in dispute. The reason nothing is being done in my opinion is that the dog owners are hoping this will all blow over. After all, who would wage a big battle over 1 little wiener dog?
