McKinney Faces Arrest for Scuffle

I Googled “Cynthia McKinney racial comments” and the first thing that came up was an article in Slate.com http://www.slate.com/?id=2064530

Someone really should inform Ms McKinney that educated folks don’t talk like ghetto trash and don’t get treated as such. She is a good example of a bad example. Here’s some parts from the Slate article….

…Around every corner, McKinney sees a secret cabal plotting her demise. After the majority-black district that first elected her to Congress was struck down by the Supreme Court as unconstitutionally gerrymandered, she lashed out at the court as racist. She compared the verdict to Dred Scott, the decision that declared slaves were nothing more than chattel, and Plessy v. Ferguson, which legitimized separate-but-equal American apartheid. (Never mind that she was re-elected in a white majority district two years later.) During her next election, she declared that Georgia's kaolin industry engineered the case that eliminated her district, as payback for her fights against the industry in Congress. (Kaolin is a white clay that is used in a number of products, including porcelain.) And last fall, she tried to solicit money for black Americans from a Saudi prince who said U.S. policy in the Middle East was partly to blame for the Sept. 11 attacks, then she wrote in a Washington Post op-ed, "Why such a negative reaction to my letter? I believe that when it comes to major foreign policy issues, many prefer to have black people seen and not heard." (To which the National Review's Jonah Goldberg retorted that "she needs to explain why I keep finding these quotes in my morning paper by Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell.")

But being the Girl Who Cried Racism means that people will also roll their eyes at the legitimate slights that the first black Congresswoman from Georgia has faced. In August 1993, during her first term in office, a Capitol Hill police officer tried to prevent her from bypassing a metal detector, as members of Congress are allowed to do. For years afterward, The Hill reports, the Capitol Police pinned a picture of McKinney to an office wall, warning officers to learn her face because she refuses to wear her member's pin. (And because officers are innately suspicious of a black woman with braided hair and gold shoes.) Five years later, she blasted White House security after guards thought her 23-year-old white aide was the congresswoman….*


…And by disseminating her more fanciful messages in obscure media outlets, McKinney insulates herself somewhat from the chunk of her constituents who would be outraged by her antics. She backs down slightly when the mainstream media come calling. After her comments about Gore's "Negro tolerance level" were posted on her House Web site, she disclaimed them and canceled four scheduled interviews with the Associated Press to discuss the incident. She employed a similar strategy in '96 when her father repeatedly called her opponent a "racist Jew." (When asked about his comments by the New York Times, he replied, "He is a racist Jew, that's what he is, isn't he?") After ignoring his comments for a week, she distanced herself from them and "fired" him from her campaign, though he had no formal role….

* Her comment on the White House incident was….

"I am absolutely sick and tired of having to have my appearance at the White House validated by white people," McKinney wrote in a complaint to then-President Bill Clinton. "I don't need to be stopped or questioned because I happen to look like hired help."

Maybe if she looked and acted like a member of Congress instead of “hired help” she’d be treated like one.

Hold on, there.............since when does 'hired help' mean black or even hispanic. I bet there are plenty of white "hired help" in the white house and they're proud to be there. This woman needs sumthin alright, but she can't get it in an election.

I've been lurking here for sometime and this is only my second post. For the most part my views would probably conflict with most of the "regulars" which is fine, it's a big country.

However, I had the misfortune of residing in Atlanta during Ms. Kinney's earlier tenure (you should have seen the district they made she ran in). Ms. Kinney's problem is she thinks she's entitled to the job. And her father is worse. IMO, any politician who thinks they're entitled needs their kester kicked out. Oh well, the repubs got Delay, Frist, and Brownstone, we got Diane F and Cynthia. No one ever said life was perfect.

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Cynthia McKinney admits that she broke government rules by spending money to fly a celebrity to Atlanta.
Channel 2 Action News has uncovered documents showing McKinney, D-Ga., spent about $1,000 of taxpayer's money to fly singer Isaac Hayes to Georgia to help dedicate a new office in Atlanta.
The money came from a fund members of Congress are supposed to use for office supplies.

Isaac Hayes is office supplies? Talk about demeaning.

The scuttlebutt I hear is that the Capitol Police were going to drop the incident with the guard at the door until McKinney made a big fuss about them being racist. Now they are looking at charges and arrest. I learned years ago that big organizations will try to be fair until that nasty racist word comes up. Then they’ll go to great lengths to hammer home the point that they didn’t discriminate.

A LOYAL lap doG is even better.......... man those are hard to find.......... used to have a really good lap doG........ but he had trouble knowin where his yard ended, but ya know he could always find his way home............ had to cut his leash tho......... he strangled himself once too often.......... boy I miss him sometimes....... well OK...... most times.......... No trouble. I watch politics as a spectator sport the way some folks watch feetball. Republicans are serious and boring, but Democrats are a hoot! I miss James Traficant (D-Ohio) but he pissed off Klinton and now he’s in prison.
