Ford County Landfill

Has anyone been to the dump lately? I took a pickup load of trash out there last week, and it cost me over $65! How come it cost so much? Other towns that I have lived in allowed residents to dump trash for no charge. No wonder so many people leave trash laying around their properties, and no wonder the county road ditches are full of junk. Who can afford to pay these prices??

WOW- That is HIGH. Was your load covered? I have taken truckloads there and ranged from 20-30 dollars. Sounds like they may have double-charged you for an uncovered load. That is the only thing I hate about living on the landfill road- I get trash strewn through my yard and up and down the road almost everyday from thoughtless pricks who don't cover their load. I have come home to find everything you can think of in my ditch; Christmas trees, doors, plywood, and even a washine machine one time. Aggravating, to say the least. I then have to call the landfill and they come and get it- no wonder why they charge double for uncovered loads.

I'm pretty sure that dumping in Gray County is free if you live in the county. Maybe Ford county in all their wisdom would rather pay salaries to a crew of county workers to clean up illegal dumping than to offer free or discounted dumping to county residents.

Huh? Free dumping? Brotha, ain't nuthin' in Gray County free - I'm pretty sure they charge for the air their good citizens breathe, too.

When I grew up there, the swimming pool was even free to city residents because $1.00 on your city water bill went to the swimming pool.

I know that when my Mom moved to a new house a couple of years ago my brother, sister-in-law and I cleaned out a shed at the old house and took most everything to the dump. It was free to dump then, just cost us the gas to drive from Cimarron to south of Ingalls where the dump is.

Next time you could use the FREE service located at the Sanitation Shop at 111 E. Water Street for disposal of junk and metal. This service is free to Dodge City Sanitation customers. Junk items that can be dropped off include couches, chairs, mattresses, carpeting, etc. Metal items can include washers, dryers, dishwashers, hot water heaters, etc. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must be placed beside the box. NO WOOD ITEMS, TREE LIMBS OR HOUSEHOLD TRASH IN THE DROPOFF ZONE
