I doubt if that changes thier dierction of charge - they think that ordinary folks will just jump on cause of the fast talk and pulling "professionals" out of the wood work. Ask the good Dr where AMA made thier money? On the backs of tobacco farmers. All thier arguin about smokin has nuthing to do with the lack of stats for what they are pushing. Just like AMA's money windfall has not much to do with how they invest now.

It is about choice and keeping government out of private business. Unfortunatley this is the way things are goin and Dodge will probably fall in like with the rest of the city fathers. Sad state. Keep up the good fight there Bubba! After they are done with the smokers maybe they can direct thier attention to the illegals, crime, gangs, steets, and other things..... probably not - that requires real action. Next they will start on the fat folks! Obesity kills more, costs more, and is more dangerous than 2nd hand smoke ever thought of bein.

As of this morning, the Globe's poll:
Quote:
Do you favor restricting or banning smoking?

Restricting (8%) = 28

Banning (39%) = 135

Leave it alone (52%) = 179
I noticed the Globe's question is somewhat loaded....

Bubba I don't think they're missing the point but rather ignoring it. It would be really hard for any intelligent person to not see the point. The problem is they know no one would support it for what it really is so it's wrapped in a more acceptable covering.

While smoking, in most cases, can be harmful they're leaving out the entire picture. Hum, imagine that! Some people spend their whole lives in the sun and die of old age. Some people only need to get a few hours to developed cancer from the sun. Smoking does not guarantee death. I've known smoker over 90 years old that died of old age. And studies have shown in some cases smokers benefit from smoking.

But again this issue is not about smoking or even second hand smoke.

All Internet polls are vulnerable to at least some finagling by those who understand how they work. Thats not to say they don't contain any valid information, only that the margin for error is higher.

I would say these numbers are showing what most people are thinking. Let the business owner make their own choice.

What about banning smoking not for the damage it causes to people who recieve second-hand smoke, but how about for the discomfort it causes those who do not smoke and dislike the smell of smoke?

I don't smoke and don't like the smell of smoke, but I still think it is wrong to ban smoking. I am an adult and I can make a choice whether or not I want to go into a business that allows smoking.

How about banning video games because kids are becoming obese because they sit at their game consoles and computers instead of going outside to play a real game and get exercise?

Where do you draw the line?

Some peoples health is seriously in jeopardy by the pine from a Christmas tree. Do we ban Christmas trees in public?

I can't stand that beer smell in a bar. It makes me sick to my stomach and we all know drinking drivers kill far more innocent people than second hand smoke. Perhaps we should look at baning drinking in public as well?
