| Elsewhere: Two-thirds of the voters in Lincoln favored the smoke-free ballot measure in November of 2004. The law went into effect on Jan. 1, 2005. Lincoln's smoke-free law prohibits smoking in any workplace, including restaurants and bars. Hotels are allowed to designate 20 percent of their rooms for smokers. While some Lincoln businesses have indicated they failed because of the new smoke-free law, Burke (manager of health promotion for the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department) said, "I don't think we can say any business has failed because of the ordinance." |

| I’m sure that anyone that had advocated a public policy that hurt someone else financially would never open themselves up to a lawsuit by publicly admitting to the fiscal harm.

| It is a proven "fact, theory, whatever", that eating food makes people fat. Thus I propose that no one should be allowed to eat any food, in any public place, as it promotes detrimental harm to the human race!! Oh, and no drinking in public, because some ex-alcoholic might see you and start drinking again! And no more "screwing", as this creates too many mouths to feed, and could lead to transmission of diseases, little critters, and so forth! DILLIGAF? |

| Apples and Oranges....It's unfortunate the gov't has to get involved. I remember when you could walk the floors of a mall and see people smoking...they banned smoking in malls but it seems that more people than ever flock to malls to spend their ca$h. (except for the Dodge Mall...it's a ghost town usually) There will always be initial knee jerk reactions and people complaining. I personally would rather go to a place to eat or whatever that has no smoking. I think it's ludicris you can't smoke in the mall but yet they have ash cans by the front door so everytime I walk in and out I have to walk through someone's nasty smoke. They should put the "smoking area" on the other side of the parking lot.....lol. Smokers do have the right to smoke and such but they don't have the right to annoy others with their 2nd hand smoke...no more than I would have the right to shove a big mac down ur throat at Mcdonalds MIT USA....LOL

| I prefer a "Whopper" there Army! Really, the point I was trying to make in my usual "smartass" fun way, is that things are so different anymore. You gotta remember I am an Old bastard. ( Alot older than that youngster, Detector) LOL. Things were so simple in my younger days. Everybody got along, things were simple, and we had FREEDOM of which I fought for and am glad that we have people like you, who also fight for our freedom. But it seems nowadays, those freedoms are slowly going the wayside. Everyone thinks that their stance on a position is the only right one, and everybody else is full of crap!! Back in the "good ole days", we all respected each others choices, opinions, and freedoms, and had manners, morals, and respect for all of our fellow men. The "ME, ME, ME" crowd today, should have to endure some of the hardships, struggles, and lifes little pleasures that we had back in those years. I could give you some more examples, but I think you get my picture. Personally, I am glad that I lived when I did, and that I won't have as many years to put up with some of the idiosyncrasies that my children will have to endure. |

| It's about time, the ban is a good thing for sure. The thing I'm going to hate seeing most is the myriad of smokers standing outside the restaurants and bars to light up, it looks comical like back in my high school days<O:p</O:p <O:p</O:p Yet I still think this is far better than my family and I having to inhale the second hand smoke and also having the opportunity to smell like smoke for the rest of the day or night. I've gone into other places after being in a smoke filled room only for a short while and was asked "I didn't think you smoked" that really pisses me off having to make excuses for someone else’s bad habit. Just glad some other bad habits aren't allowed in public!!!<O:p</O:p <O:p</O:p My biggest grievance from playing in the band in various bars throughout the country was always the smoking. The 1970's and 80's seemed to be much worse than it is these days. Better filtration systems and smoking in general being on a decline I'm sure accounts for a good share of this. <O:p</O:p To say the least I don't even like sitting next to the smoking section when I eat out and try to avoid it at all cost.<O:p</O:p <O:p</O:p The smokers don't care if they smoke while you eat it doesn't bother them. Get this! on many occasions back in my band days (yes I still play) I’ve even seen people smoking while they themselves are eating food. How can they possibly care about you if they don’t give a crap about their own well being, never mind the taste it must have. <O:p</O:p <O:p</O:p I have a friend who has had a lung removed. Yet at the place he works they just continued to light up right in front of him, even on his first day back. How inconsiderate is that!!! "Smoke gets in your eyes" please ban the smoking <O:p</O:p Well I believe I have spouted long enough, lucky I didn’t get going. musicmaker1 |
