Anti-smokers destroying small business.

I understand that there are inconsiderate smokers as with many other such habits that irritate people. I myself can't stand people who chew and drink, excessively, in public but I share my surroundings with others who have habits and so I am tolerant. I know studies have shown 2nd hand smoke can be hazardous, as can be car exhaust, but I don't expect automobiles to be banned from it.

The real issue here, in my opinion, is freedom. They could ban smoking in all places but special smoking houses and people would still complain. Even though non-smokers have their places to go where they can be smoke free, they still insist on baning smoking. Some people have a need to control what others can and cannot do.

I myself played in bars for years and know quite well how smoke filled they can become but it was my choice to be there. No one forced me in to a smoking bar.

I don't smoke when people are eating around me even if they themselves smoke. I don't smoke around people that don't smoke unless they approach me while I'm smoking. I figure if they are concerned they'll be considerate enough to wait until I'm done. You can't judge smoking based on a few inconsiderate smokers as with judging drinkers based of a few idiots.

There are many personal habits deemed hazardous to other peoples health so where do we draw the line? When a habit of yours makes the ban list will you be so anxious to sign up?

Then it should only matter to you when someone smokes in your or your families presents. This I can understand. The outright baning of smoking in any public place is nothing more than playing Hitler.

And in matters of your and your family's health you have control. You do not have to patronize places that allow smoking. It doesn't have to be made into a government issue and laws passed to outlaw smoking. You have the right not to spend your money in an establishment that allows smoking.

ok ...now that they have found ecoli bacteria in spinach(or however you spell it)...Im sure its probably in other greens especially on a salad bar..do they all wash their hands after taking a s**t ...probably not.....so do you keep your loved ones from eating salad....?? Do we ban salad bars...or do we let folks decide if they want to take a chance ?? It seems to me that everything has a danger in it....and yes you are right... second hand smoke is a problem... but if someone goes into a smoking allowed bar or restaurant... you usually have a choice... stay, go , or sit on non smoking side...and seems to me ...smoking outside...away from entry or exit doors, hurts no one except the smoker....I am a smoker and I go hide away from non smokers when I want to light up if there is no place to smoke
Now if I am at a table ...in a smoking section....like singles dance for instance...and a non smoker comes to join the smoking table ...its on him or her.....they have a choice...
Be careful about banning what offends you.... cause Im sure you have some offensive habits also...

It has nothing to do with offending me but causing me harm. If it was just being offended I'd hack up a lugi on anyone who lights up around me.

We went to Red Lobster tonight and told them we wanted to sit in the non-stinking section, as we always do, and were told it would be a shorter wait if we sat in the smoking section. (you'd think they would have figgued it out when I called it the stinking section.)

I told them NOOO that's not what we wanted. Then we waited our 20 min and were taken to a "non-smoking" table right next to the bar where people were smoking.

I declined the table and told the hostes if that's all they had we'd wait until somthing a safer distance was available. She got pissy with me about having to go to the bottom of the list and wait longer.

After my discussion with the manager they saw it my way and she gave me dirty looks all night.

The smoking section was only about a 2/3 full the rest of the time we were there.

When they enact a smoking ban it won't be so difficult to get a meal.
