Not to mention the people that believe that bathing with soap and water is an option that they don't need!

Not smoking in eateries is a good thing also. There are far more people that choose to not smoke than those who do. The smokers aren't being told they can't smoke...they just have to do it and be responsible about it.
Army, its one thing to not allow smoking somewhere that you HAVE TO BE like Motor Vehicle. Its another to thing when it’s someplace that you WANT TO BE but don’t have to like a bar or restaurant. When it’s optional that you go there then the rights of the property owner take priory over the costumer. If you don’t like the policy you have the option to go somewhere else. If the demand for smoke free places was strong enough the owners would do it on their own without being forced to.

No kidding. Talk about gag a maggot. Nothing like walking into a room and instantly knowing a certain woman was there and left a half hour ago.

I have the right, as a non-smoker, to decide if I want to go to a business that still allows smoking.

It is easy for management to decide if it is worth it to allow smoking in thier establishment. For a very simplified example, if I run a business that only has 3 customers, 2 customers do not smoke and they come in once a week and spend $30 each, and 1 customer does smoke and comes in daily and spends $20. It is not hard for me to decide that I am going to allow smoking in my business. From a financial standpoint it would be suicide of my business to lose my $20/day customer to satisfy my $60/week customers.

By the way, I am a current non-smoker, and I don't fully believe that there is as much danger to second hand smoke as everybody says there is. It is just politically correct in this day and age to bash the tobacco companies with this retoric. There is much more danger in breathing the carbon monoxide and other pollutants coming out of everybody's car exhaust, but I don't see anybody pushing for a ban on driving because of breathing second hand car exhaust.
Well said Bubba!

Army, perhaps a better question might be how many times an illness or death gets blamed on smoking when it’s really something else. On more than one occasion I’ve had a doctor or other health care worker blame something on smoking when it was in fact a reaction to some damn medicine the doctor prescribed. Smoking is a cop-out for all the stuff they ain’t smart enough to figure out.

I know that lots of asthmatics wind up in the ER over crummy perfume....... worked with a major "wheezer"........ perfume, cooking smells, anything put her over the edge....... but smoke didn't bother her for the most part.

Probably about the same number that die from 2nd hand smoke if the real truth be known.

You might be surprised but the point is some people believe they're still at risk just because they can smell smoke. By law a restaurant, if they allow smoking, must put smokers in an area that circulates X amount if air per minute. This is a scientifically determined amount that keeps second hand smoke from being dangerous to others. But it's not enough.

I've seen people complain about having to walk outside past "them damn smokers" and just because they can smell the smoke they think they're being poisoned. There's far more things in the outside air to worry about than second hand smoke. But it doesn't matter.

The control freaks got the ball rolling and they're going to push it as far as they can.

We get told about all the “studies” and “scientific proof” of the hazards of tobacco smoke but stop and think about that. There are billions of dollars in taxes, lawsuits, stop smoking products and businesses and the Master Settlement Agreement dependent on the evils of tobacco. Aside from the occasional study that comes along that is proven false right away, to believe that all of those studies are true is to believe that tobacco is the ONLY political issue with huge sums of money at stake that DOESN’T HAVE tons of phony studies to support the cash flow.
