There have been so many rapes and aggravated assaults lately, it's hardly safe to leave your house.

Just a reminder to be careful and take someone with you if you go out jogging or walking, especially at night.

Dodge City's rape stats are double the national average.

I just wanted to let everybody know that there has been at least 7 rapes in this past week, I don't get the globe so I don't know if they have ran a story on this. These rapes are happening at all times of the day, so if you go out for walks protect yourself, walk in groups, carry mace, leave your ipods at home so you can hear whats around you. Hopefully the cops can catch the people involved as soon as possible.

Really? Can you document this? Because I kinda know somethings as to what crimes are committed in Dodge on a weekly basis...and I sure havent heard of 7 rapes...now drive by shootings, that is a different story...

Do you really think that all rapes get turned into the police dept?

Statistics show that only about half of the rapes get turned in at all.

And while I believe the police try and do a good job, sometimes they just make things worse for the victim. I know this becuase I have a family member that was recently raped and the local police made things much worse, even accusing her of involvement. After my experience I would caution a victim from coming forward to our local PD. They'll make you relive the horrible experience over and over, submit to intrusive tests and procedures, or perhaps even a lie detector test, with absolutely no results. In our case, we have little faith that our local PD is even still trying to find the perp.

I would not say something like this if it wasn't true, I cannot say were my information did come from, to protect the persons job. Now you can say that if you cannot document this information it must not be true, I don't care. But you can back me up and say that everybody needs to protect themselves when they are out for walks. OK, can you tell us for a fact how many rapes there has been?

It is well known that DC trys to squelch information such as this, otherwise we would not be reading it in the HutchNews.The big news in today's globe is that DCCC is getting 2 new signs. WTF?

You're right GenDC, the public needs to know about this so they can be extra vigilant and aware of what is going on in town. We should do everything possible to protect our citizens, even if the truth sheds a dark light on Dodge City.

Without Hutchinson News, we'd pretty much be kept in the dark.

You are right on target, Tee! Why can't the Glob keep people informed?? Isn't that what a newspaper is supposed to do? I personally know for a fact, about a ton of crap that has taken place in DC, and there never was anything that was put in the paper. Some papers, like the Hutch News, puts even "arrest records, and police reports" in their newspaper. Wouldn't it be a good idea in the long run!! As for the attacks, I think the readers and locals should be warned, so that they may be alert and take precautions. Would also probably help the LE catch the criminals. I agree that our local PD does a good job, with what they are given and paid, but it is the media responsibility to warn people of happenings in the readersip area. Now maybe this info. is not getting to the Glob, however by it normal "track record", that probably is not the case. I remember an instance many years ago, where the Glob would not print a story, so I had a local radio jock put it on the radio. Next day, the Glob decided to print it!!! Absolutely fricking amazing!!! I get the local Glob, however it is primarily for a quick glance early in the morning. To get real local news, I buy a Hutch News. Let the New York Times print BS from their area and world events. The local paper should be just that, a LOCAL PAPER TO PRINT LOCAL NEWS!!!! Stauffer should go back to Topeka!!

As citizens we should have the right to know what is and isn't going on in the community. Why would this stuff not get reported? Maybe because those in charge would fear for their jobs? I'm not sure....someone help me with this......

Were those REPORTED rapes or girls saying they have been raped?

1st and foremost sorry to hear that happened to a family member.

It's understandable that it is a bad experience. There is nothing good about a sex crime Tee. As far as the victim reliving the experience, well they have to get statements and will probably have the person do it more than once to see if it changes, it has to be accurate to stand up in court. The intrusive tests are the tests they need in court to convict the assailant. They have to consider all avenues, even the victim being not a victim because women calling rape happens frequently (not saying this in the case of your family). As far as DC PD finding the perp...gotta agree with you there.....
